I have had great opportunities of searching into his character, and have availed myself of them. Many person i^f different nations, coming from Madrid to Paris, all speak of him as in high esteem, and I think it cer tain that lie has mere of the Count dr. At Nashville troops were railed out to prevent a similar execution." That the foregoing paragraph hears falsehood on its face in its most jialpalde colour* there is not a doubt. Wo have never beard it stated before that the cause of Cien. Houston's quitting his home was because ho was " disappointed in receiving a portion" with his lady. Hon. II. was not " burnt in effigy in several places" as stated by tho Argus ; und at no place that we have ever heard, was the attempt made save in tho vicinity of Gallatin where the fronds, fee. of his lady reside. The circum stances which occasioned the course (Jen. II. has pursued we have never heard folly developed, but can say from what we have been told, that they are different from the causes stated in the quotation. While we are culled upon therefore, to rejoice with those who have been successful, our sym|uithies are de manded, for thoso who are to linger out another year of vexatious suspension, and our deepest commiseration is due to those whose late it is to drag out a miserable ex istence, to ho prisoners without hope, for the remainder of their lives.?Chron.
