The Bank forwarded a sample of the diseased cotton to Clentson College, and it was found that the disease a’as boll rot of cotton, or cotton anthracnosc. The following .’article was sent the Bank by rtie College, and should prove interesting at this time: - • ' Colton A11 th rue nose. Reports received thus far indicate that cotton anthracnose, the fungus boll rot of cotton. Is even more wid*- spread and more destructive this season than heretofore. A study of the history ot the out breaks In South Carolina during tie the past four years shows that in very nearly every rase the disease ,was brought to the farm in the seed. |-cod usually in seed of some suppos- dly highly improved variety which was purchased at a high price. The first and most Im portant step in this, is to secure seed which are free from disease It 'f best to secufe your seed for next year’s planting from a field where here Is no disease. If it H not pos sible to da this, the next besf thing to do is to pick vour coifou f or ‘rom stalk's which show no signs of disease and which are not near dis eased stalks. It is rot safe to pick f [healthy looking bolls-' from stalks which have rotten boHs on them..
