Good roads, or sand-. i clay roads, can be built at a! [minimum cost in all sections ofj Colleton cunty if the people! [would come together and work! | for good roads, but unfortunate- ; ly our people are divided; some ! op}>ose, while others favor the road law. { The sand-clay road is the best kind of mads for all kind \of traveling. The age of the au- tomobile for both pleasure and business is at hand, ami this is one of the strongest points in favor of the sand-clay system of road construction. All parts of a community are interdependent from a commercial standpoint. 1: matters not how progressive and prosperous the people in a community may be. if they can- not reach a market for their products their prosperity avails but little. To bring every com- j munity into easy access to a profitable market and in easy reach of the seat pf bounty gov- ernnfent is a problem solved only by the building and maintaining of highways of travel. Let good roads lead to the | county seat, to the high school of every community, to every church on the hill sides, and the business interests of the people will increase. This problem is worthy of the best thought of our statesmen. If Colleton County had good roads ihe land would smile with prosperity, real estate would ad vance rapidly, instead of our cities overrun with an idle popu- ■*tj i Jation, the farms would abound in laborers. There is no longer any doubt, but the most of the people of Colleton County are interested in the making and maintaining better roads. the majority of leading men everywhere are willing to pay for improved highways, and in most sections more work and more money is being put on the public roads. The demand for good roads, builded upon intelli gent lines, with proper grada tion and drainage is increasing in this county very rapidly. But you say good roads cost money. Did yotR ever know s good thing tov^st nothing? Mossbacks existMn every com munity. Let the voters of Colle ton County come together and bring them under a pile of patriotic votes for an economical tax for sand-clay roads or good roads of some other kind. Pub lic money, a national appropria tion could not be put to a better purpose than in sending it out over the county to build good roads. Everywhere expert road- builders can be had to show and Instruct those who are seeking to improve our public roads and how the work can be best and moot economically dona CoUeton county is to be con gratulated In that she is now taking steps to give to hsr cW- Produce Commission Merchants o. • h ' Solicits consignments of Poultry, Egg, Dressed Hogs and Calves, Irish and Sweet Potatoes, Peas, Onions, Celery, Cabbages, Oranges, Apples, Peaches, Pineapples, Watermelons.
