Thirty Years cm CLASS PROPHECY THE PROPHECY OF THE 1909 CLASS FORETELLS THE CAREER OF ITS MEMBERS. ——— The following C’lass Prophecy of the Walterboro Graded School was written by Mies Sal lie Hut! man for the closing exercises. This paper was enjoyed by everyone who heard Mict Huffman' read it. The clever wit contained kept the uudieucel augh- ing^/ It was one of the cleverest pa pers read at the commencement. To lift the curtain that shrouds the future is generally conceded to be an impossible achievement. How- gan in England during our school days and which we scorned, had crossed the ocean and taken hold of ohr county, and dear old Claudia had become mteresvd iu the move* ment and was nmn nj for governor in one of the wt-steru states. I was proud of the manner in which she spokt; and the admiration which her oratory comm mde I t>ru I could u« t but wian that aoe t ad held to our old Southern ul-a that a woman should be a candidate for nothing below the blissful state of matnmouy. Later, on my »a» to Walterboro and passing t trough Green Pond, where they nad n**ver changed! the schedule and where they still held us for hours that we might see the sights and breathe the b'acing air, 1 saw a hose face there w?re familiar Hues. As has been the boy and girl so will be the man and the woman. And it is upon this basis that I shall try to forecast the future of the members of the 1909 class. Suppose, that instead of prophecy* ing as to what these boys and girls shall be we project ours^lvts into the future and look upou what they shall have accomplished. ’ ^ As Twas passing through the city ot Washington some days ago 1 re cognized a familiar face and was de lighted to hear a familiar greeting. It was a real joy to meet my dear old friend Florrie Howell; and to learn that her vouthful talents had been then ploughing near Green Pond. On this same visit to Walterboro I was making the rounds of the old streets to see how many fences the Civic league had taken; down, when my attention was called to a large number oi little children playing in a yard. Fiual'y I noticed the one who seemed to be the teacher. She was i'armiliar yi some res;>ects and I recognized Vivian Price. She told uie she was teaching a Kindergarten, 1 was surprised ior 1 had never thought of Vivian as an old maid teacher, but you can never tell «celr- tainly what will take place. 1 saw in the Walterboro Daily some time ago that Hughes Murray Same in tine quality Messaline Silk $12.75 t0 $50.00 EACH.
