The committee from the Grand Jury, to examine the public offices and officers, met here yesterday. Messrs S. J. Rumph and W. H. Hiers were present. The foreman, J. J. Folk, was detained on account of sickness. The other two members of the committee with the expert Capt. E. L. Fishbume have begun the work and will examine all the offices, but those perhaps of the Treasurer and Supervisor, these offices will be examined when the full committee can meet. DEATH OF MRS. S. N. MOTT. After an illness of several weeks, Mrs. S. N. Hiottdied at her hqme near town Monday morning. She . was only twenty-five years of age ) and was loved by a wide circle of friends and relatives. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hiott. Mrs. Hiott had been mar ried about seven years and leaves an infant three weeks old. Her re mains were interred at Doctors Creek Church Tuesday morning. COL. BOB SEEDS. The second attraction -for the Lyceum course this season was Col. Bob Seeds, who appeared before a very good size audience at the Court House Tuestlay evening. The sub ject of his lecture w’as ‘*The Mis takes of Life” It has highly enter taining and amusing, carrying with it a serious vein. The next attraction will be ‘ The Boston Indie’s Quartette”' Friday evening November 6th. MANAGEMENT DR BLACKS CONDITION. Yesterday morning, Dr. Black had a sinking spell, and the watch ers around his bedside feared the end was near. His son, Howell, and trothers were summoned, but contrary to what seemed so certain, in the afternoon he began to im prove, and today some slight hope is entertained that he will continue to improve. His symptoms are much more favorable. His son, Howell, came in the after noon from Branchville, his brother J. B. of Sheldon, at night and Robert, this morning. His sister, Mrs. J. L.
