Editor Press and Standard:—The legislative work of the General As sembly has been finished and we are all at Dome to hear our people say, "Well done, faithfal servant,” or "Thou wicked- and slothful ser vant.” Which will it be ? This legislature considered in round numbers 1600 bill* some of them good, some bad, some impor tant and of interest to the whole State, eome of sectional interest, af fecting only our county or certain countio* and still others of little or no interest to any body or any sec tion. But 1 suppose the readers of The Pram and Standard arc most inter ested in those acts which effect Col leton county. I think it was Cap* Way who made inquiry in your last taie about the contract law. lam glad to say to him that the contract law has been enacted, and it is be lieved to be a good, equitable law and one that wul stand the test of the courts. It provides that the landlord and tenant may enter into contract either written or verbal, the latter to be witnemsd by two duinterestod parties and tne contract •hall be binding alike upon employ er sad employee. It provides that when any employ er to pay the employee a stip ulated compensation and to furnish him advances and fails to do so with intent to injure or defraud the em ployee he shall be guilty of a misde meanor and punishable by fine or imprisonment. And when any em ployee acreee to render service and reerivm advances to be paid for by such serviee and wilfulbr refuses to perform sueh service with talent to injure and defraud he riipU be guil ty of a misdemeanor, punishable by fine and imprisonment.
