' “In this trial the hogs were yard fed during the but summer season, consc-. queatly they were under conditions making tbe trial ns severe as possible, i Under such conditions fermenting cot- t.)tisea.l meal does not entirely remove Its Injurious effect when fed to bogs. Results of the Experiment. “The results of this ex|>erimcnt show that for the first forty-three days of the feeding the mixture containing cot tonseed meal aud com gave larger and cheaper gains than the straight corn ration, while during the second period of forty days the results were reversed. This leads to the suggestion that t) improve a corn ration it would be ud- rKnblc t.» raid cottonseed n e:.l to It for t.b.>ut' fo ty days, preferably for other reasons also during the last forty days of the feeding. “The hogs that received cottonseed tr.e.d as a part of their ration in- this trial showed le*s fat and more lean meat in the carcass. “The enreasse* ’bf the hogs that re ceived cottonseed meal, contrary to the previously expressed opinion of the packers, were tinner and therefore more acceptable to them than those of the coni fed hogs." V T* } , To those^wbo wish to ‘feed, cotton seed meal to pig* the author recom mends that for animals ou hqhvy feed ! not more than one-fourth of the total | weight of the grain ration consist of { cottonseed meal. This feeding should not be continued for more than fifty days unless tbe proimrtion of cotton seed meal be redueed. Mixing end Souring. The meal should lie mixed wltb the other feed and ail soared together. As mnrh green feed as possible should also be fed and a close watch kept and the cottonseed meal taken away from any animals not eating or not gaining well. „ If cottonseed meal and corn chops are mixed before the water U added, the tendency for the meal to form into ball* is obviated.
