The subscriptions to a cannery now total 52 of .the proposed 100. We are on the last hulf of the lap now*, and this will be the hard pull. If you intend to help this movement, come on in now. Do not wait to see what some other man is going to do. People who help themselves are the people who win. The stat-.' government must have money upon which to run. The money must come from taxation. Every one of tho var-ous groups of citizens thinks he is paying more than his just portion. It will never be possible to get people to see the question from the other fellow's standpoint. But it does seem that there could be devised some simple, just plan of taxation that would result in an improved condition all round. No plnn would please all; some plan can be just to all. Move to Split Alaska Ketchikan, Alaska, Jan. 20.?Ketchikan's commercial club has revive.! an old move to split Alaska into two territories and has voted to ask Congress to make the division. It is proposed that the southeastern or "panhandle" section be made one territory, leaving the northern section to remain another territory. Advocates of the move say that the interests of the two sections nre different. From southwestern Alaska come most of the salmon and in thtis section there nre prospects that great pulp and paper mills some day will bo erected. Percy A.
