CROOKEDNESS IN DILLON. Grand Jury Investigates.?Treasure: Resigns.?Warrant for Auditor. " W. C. Mclnnis, treasurer of Dillon county, sent his resignation to Governor Manning Friday, following an Investigation of his office by the Dillon county grand jury. The grand Jury's investigation shows that there hAfi been wholesale corruption in the conduct of the government of Dillon county and it is quite likely that disclosures of a much more startling nature may yet be made. A dispatch of Friday from Dillon tells of corruption there as follows: The report of the grand jury, which has been examining the affairs of the Dillon county offices, made today, involved the issuing of a bench warrant for C. G. Bruce, county auditor, on charges of misappropriating county funds; the resignation of William C. McJnnis, county treasurer, and the recommendation that a com jsg petent man be appointed to succeed him, and a reprimand for the sheriff } - and the county attorney. The grand jury completed its report and it was read by the solicitor late this afternoon in the court room before a large number of people who U./ were eager to hear it. Except for a small number of clerical errors with no intentional wrongTV -* doing the clerk of court's office was found to be all right. The superintendent of education's office was found to be all right except the method of handling entries of funds and t: disbursements of the Latta, Dillon and Page's Mill school. The county attorney, it was found, had not paid his taxes for 1912 and ||y:;1913, and part of the taxes of the p / i.Hugh Price estate.of 1913, he being py a trustee of the estate. The county attorney, however, expained his course on the ground of Sltei* the depression and said that he was Ste;" mot able to pay the taxes. He by his explanation sought to exhonorate the |p|v'". county officer of all blame. A bench warrant was issued late this evening as a result of the findg ~ ings in the county auditor's office. This was done upon the recommenda& tion of the grand jury. It was found IP" that C. G. Bruce, the auditor, had p.v.. misappropriated to his own use the amount of $1,405.97, and the further sum of $3,163.81. The master's office was found to be all right and his books properly kept. LOST IN THE WILDERNESS. life: J. A. Dennison and Wife Found in Exhausted Condition. * Dixville Notch, New Hampshire. Sept. 24.?Joseph A. Dennison, former assistant attorney of Suffolk county, Mass., and his wife, who had been lost for nearly four days in the t wilderness of the northern foothills % , ! of the White Mountains, were found today. They had suffered from exhaustion and lack of food and sleep. The Dennisons had set out Wednesday for a stroll and lost their bear'< ings in the almost trackless woods. For two days they had wandered in nnoef a hahitaHnn Not until Fri ~ day did they find shelter in an abandoned logging camp, where they remained, too tired to walk longer and not knowing which way to turn.
