The Lawyer Took The Hint. 4 " Lord Brampton, formerly Sir Henry Hawkins, the English judge, was presiding over a very long, tedious and uninteresting trial, and was listening, apparently with absorbed attention to a protracted and wearying speech from an eminent counsel, learned in law. Presently Sir Henry made a pencil memorandum, fold-? ed it and sent it by the usher to the lawyer in question! This geDtleman, on unfolding the paper found these words written thereon: "Patience competition. Gold medal Sir Henry Hawkins. Honor, able mention, Job." Counsel's display of " oratory came to an abrupt end. RHEUMATISM CURED. William Shaffer, a brakeman, of Denni? son, Ohio, was confined to bed for weeks -^ith inflammatory rheumatism. "1 used many remedies," he says. "Finally I sent ^ to McCaw's drug store for a bottle of Chamberlain's Pain Balm, at which time I was unable to use hand or foot, and in one week's time was able to go to work as happy as a clam." Dresser asked. "Why, Mr. Dresser," the visitor replied, "X am in a heap of trouble. I owe $600 and it is keeping me up nights wor- J rying how I can pay it. I haven't got the money." "My dear Jim," Dresser replied, "I > don't see why that should disturb you. Let the other fellow do the worrying. I have found that the best plan." "Is that a good plan?" ? "Best in the world. Who do you owe ^ mnnev to?" "To jour son; I bought some stuff of him." ' FAVORITE REMEDY FOR BABIES. It has cost the owner $253 to advertise the town, the beautiful blue and fertile soils, and we now throw up the sponge and vacate to make room for another sucker. Ta, ta, au revoir, good-bye. Pneumonia is too dangerous a disease for anyone to attempt to doctor himself, although he may have the proper remedies at hand. A physician should always be called. It should be borne in mind, however, that pneumonia always results from a cold or from an attack of grip, and by giving Chamberlain's Cough Remedy the threatened attack of pneumonia may be warded off. This remedy is used by physicians in the treatment of pneumonia with best results. Dr. W. J. Smith, Sanders, Ala., who is also a druggist, says: MI have been sellingChamberlain's Cough Remedy and prescribing it in my practice for the past six years. I use it in cases of pneumonia and have gotten the best results.' Sold by Bamberg Pharmacy; H. C. Rice. The Worm's Punishment. A father had been lecturing his son upon the evils of staying out late at night and of getting up late in the morning. "You never will amount to anything," he continued, "unless you turn over a new leaf. Remember that the early bird catches the worm." "How about the worm father?" inquired the young man, borrowing the old sarcasm. "Wasn't he rather foolish to get up so early?" "My son," replied the old man solemnly, "that worm hadn't been to bed at all. He was on his way home." TRAGEDY AVERTED. "Just in the nick of time our little boy was saved" writes Mrs. W. It is a pity to spoil a good moral, but it is sometimes done when a story is ex- , cavated to its foundations. This story from the London Outlook is, however, good enough to stand on its own feet: "When I came to town, twenty years ago," said a prosperous man of ample waistcoat, "all my earthly possessions were wrapped up in a red bandanna handkerchief." j "And now you own three hundred acres . of laud and that factory on the edge of ] the town?" "Yes." I "May I ask you what you carried in j the red bandanna handkerchief?" 1 "Six thousand pounds in cash and bonds." MORE RIOTS.
