CURED CONSUMPTION.
Mrs. B. W. Evans, Charwater, Kan.,
writes; "My husband lay sick for three
months. Doctors said he had quick consumption.
"We procured a bottle of Ballard's
Horehound Syrup, and it cured him.
That was six years ago and since then we
* have kept a bottle in the house. We
cannot do without it. For coughs and
colds it has no equal." 2oc, 50c, and $1.

The Lawyer Took The Hint.
4 " Lord Brampton, formerly Sir Henry
Hawkins, the English judge, was presiding
over a very long, tedious and uninteresting
trial, and was listening, apparently
with absorbed attention to a protracted
and wearying speech from an eminent
counsel, learned in law. Presently Sir
Henry made a pencil memorandum, fold-?
ed it and sent it by the usher to the lawyer
in question! This geDtleman, on unfolding
the paper found these words
written thereon: "Patience competition.
Gold medal Sir Henry Hawkins. Honor,
able mention, Job." Counsel's display of
" oratory came to an abrupt end.
RHEUMATISM CURED.
William Shaffer, a brakeman, of Denni?
son, Ohio, was confined to bed for weeks
-^ith inflammatory rheumatism. "1 used
many remedies," he says. "Finally I sent
^ to McCaw's drug store for a bottle of
Chamberlain's Pain Balm, at which time
I was unable to use hand or foot, and in
one week's time was able to go to work as
happy as a clam." Sold by Bamberg

1 Representative Dresser, of Bradford,
Pa., is a large manufacturer of oil well
?, supplies. Since he has been in politics
he has allowed his son to run his business.
A week or two ago he went up home to
look over the factory, and while he was
in his office a man from one of the oil
districts came in and asked to see him.
"What is it, Jim?" Representative
-? Dresser asked.
"Why, Mr. Dresser," the visitor replied,
"X am in a heap of trouble. I owe
$600 and it is keeping me up nights wor- J
rying how I can pay it. I haven't got the
money."
"My dear Jim," Dresser replied, "I
> don't see why that should disturb you.
Let the other fellow do the worrying. I
have found that the best plan."
"Is that a good plan?"
? "Best in the world. Who do you owe
^ mnnev to?"
"To jour son; I bought some stuff of
him." '
FAVORITE REMEDY FOR BABIES.
Its pleasant taste and prompt cures
^ have made Chamberlain's Cough Remedy
a favorite with the mothers of small children.
It cures coughs and colds and prevents
any danger of pneumonia or other
serious consequences. It'not only cures
croup, but when given as soon as the
croupy cough appears will prevent the
* attack. Sold by Bamberg Pharmacy; H.
C. Rice, Denmark, S. C.
The following valedictory recently appeared
in an Indian Territoiw paper:
"With this issue the Herald folds its lily
white hands upon its bosom and turns its
toes to the daises, and Milburn, I. T.,
V U. S. A., is without a paper, having witnessed
the death of two. It has cost the
owner $253 to advertise the town, the
beautiful blue and fertile soils, and we
now throw up the sponge and vacate to
make room for another sucker. Ta, ta, au
revoir, good-bye. We are going to do
something for you that the devil will
never do?that is, leave you." ,

Any child can take Little Early Risers
with perfect safetv. They are harmless,

drastic means are never disappointed.
Thev cannot fail to perform their mission
and every one who uses DeWitt's Little
Early Risers prefer them to all other
pills. They cure biliousness. Sold by
Dr. H. F. Hoover, Bamberg, S. C.
One of President Hadley's recent
stories is about a Methodist parson who
was vigorously expounding the text,
"There shall be weeping and wailing and
gnashing of teeth." Aye he said, "there
shall be gnashing of teeth! Yes" he shouted,
pounding the pulpit with his fist,
"there shall surely be gnashing of teeth!"
v "But I ain't got no teeth!" shrilly
piped up an old woman who had
been worked up to a full realization of
her sins by the preacher. "Then madam,"
yelled the minister, turning in her direction
"they will be provided!"
THE NAME WITCH HAZEL.
The name witch hazel is much abused. E.
C. DeWitt & Co., Chicago, are inventors
of the original and genuine witch hazel
salve. Certain cure for cuts, burns, bruises
eczema, tetter, piles, etc. There are many
counterfeits of this salve, some of which
are dangerous, while they are all worthless.

the box and cure is certain. Sold by Dr.

The Delineator for April.
The April Delineator is an uncommonly
interesting magazine, from the standpoint
of both fashion and literary
features. Almost as good as a trip around
the world, educationally, promises to be
the pictorial series Around the World in
Eighty Pictures, the first installment of
which appears in this number. 'Nordica
in Holiday Time is the subject of an enjoyable
paper bv William Armstrong in
the Prima Donna series. Laudon
Knight's Romance of a Pair of Bluebirds
is a "story that will appeal strongly to
lovers of nature, and to all women Dr. ;
Grace Peckham Murray's article on the
ears and nose will be of deepest interest.
In Beauty for Ashes, Allan Sutherland
tells of an interesting experiment that
has been tried in several large cities of
changing nnbeautiful vacant lots into l
garden spots. The Influence of Frills, j
by Dolf Wyllarde, and White Man, by
Alice MacGowan, are delightful short
stories, finely illustrated, and there is a
dramatic chapter of the Evolution of a
Club Woman, by A gnes Surbridge. In
addition there are entertaining stories
and pastimes for the little folks by Albert
Bigelow Paine, Gabrielle E. Jackson,
Lina Beard, and otners, ana lor every
phase of the household information of "a
practical character.
TREATMENT OF PNEUMONIA.
Pneumonia is too dangerous a disease
for anyone to attempt to doctor himself,
although he may have the proper remedies
at hand. A physician should always be
called. It should be borne in mind, however,
that pneumonia always results from a
cold or from an attack of grip, and by
giving Chamberlain's Cough Remedy the
threatened attack of pneumonia may be
warded off. This remedy is used by physicians
in the treatment of pneumonia with
best results. Dr. W. J. Smith, Sanders,
Ala., who is also a druggist, says: MI have
been sellingChamberlain's Cough Remedy
and prescribing it in my practice for the
past six years. I use it in cases of pneumonia
and have gotten the best results.'
Sold by Bamberg Pharmacy; H. C. Rice.
The Worm's Punishment.
A father had been lecturing his son
upon the evils of staying out late at night
and of getting up late in the morning.
"You never will amount to anything," he
continued, "unless you turn over a new
leaf. Remember that the early bird
catches the worm."
"How about the worm father?" inquired
the young man, borrowing the old sarcasm.
"Wasn't he rather foolish to get
up so early?"
"My son," replied the old man solemnly,
"that worm hadn't been to bed at all.
He was on his way home."
TRAGEDY AVERTED.
"Just in the nick of time our little boy
was saved" writes Mrs. W. Watkins, of
Pleasant City, Ohio. "Pneumonia had
played sad havoc with him and a terrible
cough set in besides. Doctors treated him,
but he grew worse every day. At length

consumption, and our darling was saved.
He's now sound and well." Everybody
ought to know, it's the only sure cure for |
coughs, colds and all lung diseases.

C. Rice, Denmark. Price 50c and $100. <

The Next Day.
"I understand that you were in a little
trouble that started in the parlor social."
"Dat's what I were," answered Mr.
Erastus Pinkley. "Par was a feller wif
a razzer dat chose me for de opposite
gemman in a trouble quadrille."
"But you came out best in the long
run."
"Ya>sir ,1 did. But Imus' say it were
one o' de longes' runs I ebber had."
A Wonderful Saving.
The largest Methodist church in Georgia
calculated to use over one hundred
gallons of the usual kind of mixed paint
in painting their church.
They used only 32 gallons of the Longman
& Martinez paint mixed with 24 gallons
of linseed oil. Actual cost of paint
made was less than $1.20 per gallon.
Saved over eighty ($80.00) dollars in
paint, and got a big donation besides.
Every church will be given a liberal
quantity whenever they paint.
Many houses are well painted with four
gallons of L. & M. and three gallons of i
linseed oil mixed therewith.
Wears and covers like gold.
These celebrated paints are sold by
Bamberg Pharmacy, Bamberg; J. G.
Wanamaker Mfg. Co., Orangeburg.
His Little All.
It is a pity to spoil a good moral, but it
is sometimes done when a story is ex- ,
cavated to its foundations. This story
from the London Outlook is, however,
good enough to stand on its own feet:
"When I came to town, twenty years
ago," said a prosperous man of ample
waistcoat, "all my earthly possessions
were wrapped up in a red bandanna
handkerchief." j
"And now you own three hundred acres .
of laud and that factory on the edge of ]
the town?"
"Yes." I
"May I ask you what you carried in j
the red bandanna handkerchief?" 1
"Six thousand pounds in cash and
bonds."
MORE RIOTS.
Disturbances of strikers are not nearly
as grave as an individual disorder of the ,
system. Overwork, loss of sleep, nervous J
tension will be followed by^ utter collapse,
unless a reliable remedy is immediately :
employed. There's nothing so efficient to
cure disorders of the liver or kidneys as
Electric Bitters. It's a wonderful tonic,
and effective nervine and the greatest all
around medicine for run down systems.
It dispels nervousness, rheumatism and
neuralgia and expels malaria germs. Only i
