Prince, of Anderson, has been appointed judge for a special term of court for Barnwell county. This court, which is for the purpose of clearing the civil docket, begins on the first Monday in May and continues for four weeks. The practice of plowing into the public roads of this county is entirely too mnnh indulged in just at this time. If I the Supervisor would have some of the v parties arrested maybe it would do much to stop it. It is a violation of law to plow into a public road, and our people should i x i remember this. . Town Marshal Hart, of-Holly Hill, Berkeley county, has been arrested at the instance of the coroner's jury on the t charge of taking the negro Richard Johnson from the guardhouse the night of February 8th and shooting him to death. Bellinger, Tuesday afternoon, the 22nd instant, at four o'clock with Masonic ceremonies. Sandifer et al, respondents, has been decided by the State Supreme Court. This was a suit ' brought by the State against the bonds men of the late a.nen r. x rcc, tw> nc?auier of Barnwell county. The bondsmen won the case in the Circuit Court and the State appealed. Jno. R. Bellinger, Esq., represented the bondsmen. Don't worry about your big feet. Rhoad, the shoe man can fit you. A negro boy about sixteen years old, * named Johnnie Green, was arrested at Govan last Monday. Green worked for J. P. Mathenv, Esq., until a week or so ago, and while there stole about thre dollars in money from Mr. Matheny. He also stole Mr. W. A. Klauber's bicycle from Mr. G. A. Jennings's front piazza on Railroad Avenue, and skipped out for Govan, selling the wheel to Mr. Faust in Pthat section. He was put in jail Tuesday, but has not been tried when we go to press. Magistrate Lightsey will hear the case of stealing the money, and Green will no doubt get 30 days on the chain gang. The law provides that stealing a bicycle is equal to the offence of horse stealing, so this case will be tried in the Circuit Court. Mr. Klauber recovered the wheel, P; m :s~' *. - " * .. ...... Darby, a prominent member of the South Carolina Methodist Conference, < died suddenly Wednesday of last week. His wife died about ten days before this. The board of directors of the Cotton Oil Company held an informal meeting last Monday morning at the mill office. Afterwards they went to Denmark to inspect the mill recently buil t at that place.
