The work room of the Barnwell Red Cross Chapter was opened about the first of September and since that time we have sent to headquarters of South ern Division for distribution four bun-, dred and forty articles of plain sewing irfcluding outing pajamas, surgical shirts, operating caps, and masks, nightengcles, operating leggings, red socks, draw sheets, pillow cases, frac ture pillows. In addition to this we have sent in about 40 comfort kits, 60 Xmas packages, for our boys at the home cantonments and abroad. We recently shipped about 60 knitted articles, including sweaters, helmets, mufflers, socks, wristlets and more coming in each day from our branches and auxiliaries in the county. Of course this does very well when we take into consideration the short time we have been at work and the terrible weather conditions we have had throughout the county. Our Xmas campaign resulted in six Hundred members being secured count- Job itf, Mr T. B. Harley, of Barnwell, route 2, was a caller at the People office Thursday. Mr. W A. C. “My dear Mrs. Andrews: “Replying to your letter of January 15th, sweaters should be made accord ing to the directions which we sent you. “Sweaters from 23*to 25 inches in length are acceptable. The sweaters 25 inches in length are not too long. We have received advice that in many of the camps, the Field Director is advising the soldiers to tuck the sweater inside of their trousers. If this is done, it does not matter if the sweater does come beneath the coat. “It is necessary to use a very heavy yam (4-ply 10’s construction.) Order yam from the Bureau of Suppliea, 32 James St., Atlanta, Ga. The yam the Bureau tends is o. k., and should he closely knit. “We are asking the Bureau of Sup plies to send you 12 copies of the Knit ting Manual.
