Howell and little son, of Lamar, are -Visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. W. Price. Dr. and Mrs. F. H. Huggins and lit tle son, Frank, are visiting relatives in Augusta this week. Capt. S. W. Trotti, of Williston, was in the city Monday. Mrs. J. A. Porter went up to Colum bia one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Davis went up to Columbia Monday morning. The Rev. A. E. Evison, of Columbia, was a visitor here last week. Mr. Q. A. Kennedy, of Williston, was a business visitor here Saturday. Mr. E. B. Sprawls,'of Rosemary township, was in the city Saturday. Misa Madge Bowman, of Orange burg, is visiting Miss Louis* Porter., Mrs. Alma K. Still and Miss Marie Uesery have returned home after a week's visit with Miss Eloise Morris. The friends of Master Emile Har ley will learn with pleasure that her continues to improve and will prob ably return home this week. Mr. B. H. Dyches and Misa Ruby Ray left on last Friday for a few days visit to friends in Columbia, Cam den, Bishopville, Olanta and Lynch burg, S. C. v visiting the Misses Tru- hick, at the latter place. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Woodward and family motored over to Statesboro, Ga., last week to visit Mrs. Wood ward's sister. Mrs. J. M. Hiers. They were accompanied home Sunday by their niece. A compelte, but unofficial list of men in Barnwell County who will be summoned for examination on the first call to fill the new National Army, the Regulars and the National Guard, in the order of their lia bility, is published on the first page of this issue of The People. In. common with the rest of the coun try, Barnwell was tremendously inter ested in the outcome of the draft. Af ternoon papers were eagerly sought, not only by the men liable to military duty, but also by those above the age of 31 years. Men between the ages of 21 and 30, inclusive, were on edge to ascertain whether they would be in cluded in the first call, i Because of the probable proportion of exemptions on the first call, double the quota will be called for examina tion. Publication gives notice to reg istrants who are effected. They will be officially summoned by the local board within the next few days. Ev erything possible is being done to ex pedite the work of preparing the lia bility list and notices to those affected by the first call.
