continues to improve and will prob
ably return home this week.
Mr. B. H. Dyches and Misa Ruby
Ray left on last Friday for a few
days visit to friends in Columbia, Cam
den, Bishopville, Olanta and Lynch
burg, S. C. v visiting the Misses Tru-
hick, at the latter place.
Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Woodward and
family motored over to Statesboro,
Ga., last week to visit Mrs. Wood
ward's sister. Mrs. J. M. Hiers. They
were accompanied home Sunday by
their niece. Miss Agnes Hiers.

of men in Barnwell County who
will be summoned for examination on
the first call to fill the new National
Army, the Regulars and the National
Guard, in the order of their lia
bility, is published on the first page of
this issue of The People.
In. common with the rest of the coun
try, Barnwell was tremendously inter
ested in the outcome of the draft. Af
ternoon papers were eagerly sought,
not only by the men liable to military
duty, but also by those above the age
of 31 years. Men between the ages of
21 and 30, inclusive, were on edge to
ascertain whether they would be in
cluded in the first call, i
Because of the probable proportion
of exemptions on the first call, double
the quota will be called for examina
tion. Publication gives notice to reg
istrants who are effected. They will
be officially summoned by the local
board within the next few days. Ev
erything possible is being done to ex
pedite the work of preparing the lia
bility list and notices to those affected
by the first call.

Mr Uleery was a veteran of the
War Between the Sen ions, having vet-
untie rc d at the beginning of hoetili-
tie*, lie served gallantly during the
entire four years sf the bitter strug
gle, at the close of which he returned
to his devastated heme State and
fought the battles of pesce no less
bravely than the conflicts of war. He
is survived by ene brother, Mr. J. W.
Uasery, of Martin, one daughter, Miss
Gertie Uasery, and two sons, Messrs.
R. L. and S. H. Ussery, all of whom re
side in the county. They have the
