THURSDAY, FEBRUARY J2, 1017. little Willie’s Compositions. ' By J. W. Chapmait. ^ __ BRICKS. Bricks are sun-dried blocks of clay, fcood fellows and unconcealed wea pons. They are very much in evidence in sun-dried clay buildings, at soda fountains and on the ririnp: line in lit tle domestic broils that interspace the happy life of bachelors tjiatfcat- tempt to sail on matrimonial Yeas. When the bricks come in the front door, accompanied by the lady of the house, connubial bliss makes a hasty exit through the back door; poor hub by does the same when the oppor tunity affords. Some wise guy has said that brick-bats are for the liv ing and bouquets are for the dead. There is more truth than poetry in that statement but oh! the irony of it! The first people to make bricks were the Egyptians and Assyrians but whether or not they used them for purposes of defense and offense are unknown. Those that used the bricks on the other party probably didn’t have time to record the deed and the other party probably didn't feel like H after he had his mind impressed with one of the hard evils. In these modem days they make two kinds of brick: Common brick and pressed brick. The common brick are put on the inside and the pretty pressed brick on the outside to make the building ap pear to be good Joking; same way women folks use rogue and powder you know. Paving brick are brick placed in the public streets for the hones and pedestrians to stumble over and the Fords to rattle over. A good fellow is sometimes termed a brick though you’ll have to search farther than here for the reason; he usually isn't as hard as a brick—in fact,‘many instances it has been shown that he is nthcr softbrsined but he has the kale. As long as he has the almighty dollar bill and doesn’t mind spending it, he is a regular fellow ami a brick; but when he has lost all his coin he is out of their class and isn't a desirable fel low for high society. eeweeeeeeeeeeee • e • ‘ One Ml a word.
