Quite a number of baseball fans from Bamberg, Blackville and Williston at tended the Bamberg- Barnwell game here Monday afternoon. Lloyd Vickery was painfully though not seriously injured at the plant of the Barnwell Lumber Company Tuesday morning when he fell against a belt. * H. R. Christie returned to his home in Macon, Ga., Tuesday morning, after a pleasant visit to relatives and friends here. His wife and little son will spend several weeks here. Ten young men stood the Clemson College scholarship examinations here Friday, nine for the the four-year and one for the one-year course. There was only one applicant for the Univer sity scholarship. D. C. L. Hiers, a local contractor and builder, will leave Monday for Fairfax where he has secured a contract for erecting a- residence for Joe Carter at that place. This will be S modern residence and will contain ten rooms.— Walterboro Press and Standard, 7th inst. Milledge Ryan, a colored man em ployed by. Merchant J. A. Porter, had a narrow escape from death Saturday afternoon. He was loading some bundles in a buggy on Main Street when the mule became frightened and dashed off with the driver hanging to the top. As he attempted to get into the seat, the mule made a sharp turn at the corner of the Store of the Barn To the Execution Committee and churches* of the Barnwell Baptist Association and all others conce rned: it Iww this day that we, the Fairmount Baptist Church, for certain good reasons known to us, have chang ed the name of our body from Fair- mount to Pleasant Hill, and that hence forth will be known as the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Bamberg, July 8.—Court of com- pleas met here yesterday with Judge Shipp of Florence presiding. Only matters in equity, motions and appeals are heard at the summer terms and the business of the court was concluded at noon today. In the after noon the members of the bar tendered Judge Shipp a fish dinner at the Edisto river, which was very much enjoyed Judge Shipp has made a most favorable impression on his two visits to this county during the past four years. Following his fall from a second story farly Monday morning, Boises Roberts, a young negro, died in the Lamar Wing at the University Hospital early yesterday morning, after living four days with a broken neck. Although conscious, his body was perfectly in sensible. According to the police, Roberts, while*in a drunken stupor, fell out a second story window of a house occu pied by Josephine Singfield, 916 Tal- cott street At the hospital it was found that the negro had a small scar on the right side of his head. He could talk and told the police that there was nothing to the report that he had been robbed and thrown out the window after 160 had been taken from him, yet the surgeons canid stick a pin into his flesh at any flinch.
