C'arnegie, the millionaire iron man, is largely interested in on iron mine near Santiago, and the ordur was made by his company, A great part of the timber is to bo used in tho conatruc- kou of cribs to inclose a harbor no&r the mines in which fhips can load. A gentleman well informed in matters said that this material would last an indefinite lengtlTDf time under water, but could ffot very well stand ex posure to tho air.
