MATTHEW MICHAEL BONNER Wedding Of Miss Cary Guthrie And Lieut. Matthew Michael Bonner The main chapel of the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland, was the scene of a beau tiful and Impressive wedding on Saturday, June 4, at 1 o’clock where Miss Virginia Cary Guthrie >f Camden and Mathew Michael lieutenant, United States forces, were married in a ouble ring ceremony. Command er Roy E. Bishop, U. S. N. chap lain corp, the Episcopalian chap lain, officiated in the presence of the immediate familiea and a few friends and classmates. The historic chapel was decor ated with native greenery and white summer flowers interspersed with burning tapers- In brass cathedral candelabra?. The traditional wedding marches were used. Usher-groomsmen were Midship men Royce E. Pettie, Jr., Charles C. O’Briere, Paul B. Tuso, Jerome B. Nulty, W. W. von Chrlstienson and Chria G. Rallis, all of the Naval Academy. They wore the white dress uniform of the Naval tAcaaemy. * Mrs. Howard G. . Phillips of Washington, D. C., the former Thomasia Guthrie of Camden, was her sister matron of honor. Brides- maids were Mias Elizabeth Ancrum Boykin of Columbia, Miss Mary PUts and 1 Mrs. (Eleanor Marvin were dresaed alike tissue taffeta strapless gowns, made with tight bodlcee. having bias folds of marquisette around the top and very full skirts worn over hoops. Old fashioned fichus of marquisette with bias bands of taffeta and having large bows In front were worn around the should ers. Mrs. Gnthrie, mother of the bride, wore midnight blue crepe with a front drape, pink flowered hat, long white giovea and a pink orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom, Mrs. Bonner, wore a toast linen suit with matching ac cessories and a corsage of gar denias. She wore the orchid from her prayer book. They will be in Camden after June 10 until Lieu tenant Bonner reports to Randolph Held, San Antonia, Texas, to begin flight training August 0. Mrs. Bonner la the daughter of Mrs. Joseph Hobson Guthrie and the late Mr. Guthrie of Camden. She attended Wirjthrop college, Bock Hill, 8. C„ and was graduated from the University of South Caro lina in June, 1040, with a bachelor of science degree In commerce. At the University she was a member of PI Beta Phi sorority, oo-ed asso ciation, and Euphrosynean Lit erary society. Before her marriage she was secretary to the Camden city school system and a mem ber of the Junior Welters league of which she was president last year and vice president this yeanr. The bridegroom Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matthew V. Bonner of Knox, Ind. He attended Cornell Lakee, N. J., niece of the bride, was flower girl. Her dress was of apple green marquisette over taf feta and her flowers were daisies. Given in marriage by her broth er, Randolph Hobson Guthrie, of New York City, the bride wore an ivory Duchess satin gown made with pointed bodice, dropped shoulder effect with a built-up neckline of bridal Illusion braded in rose point lace and long roee point lace aleeves buttoned at the wrist with tiny lace covered but tons, and a bustle back which ex tended Into a long graceful train. Lieutenant Bonner was admitted to the United Statee Naval Academy in June of that year and received his commission as a second lieutenant in the United States air force at gradu- „ „ ,, , ation exercises June 3. He Is a Guram of Mountain member of the first group of Naval Academy graduates to be com missioned in the USAF. ***** Miss Robbie Smotherman And Pfc. William R. Trapp Marriage Of Interest The marriage of Miss Robbie Smotherman of Christiana, Tenn., daughter of Mrs. A. F. Smother man, and the late Mr. Smother man, and Pfc. William R. (Dick) Trapp of Camden, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. S. Trapp, was solemnized at 4 p. m., Saturday, > N< ' ‘ fell from a draped coronet of illus ion and orange blossoms. She wore a single strand of tiny pearls and carried a white prayer book top ped with at purple throated white orchid and showered with lilies of Mrs. Williford Host To Her Bridge Club Mrs. J. L. Williford was hostess to the members of her bridge club last weak.. _ '• Playing for absent members were Mrs. Ralph Little, Mrs. A. C. McKain and Mrs. T. Lee Little, and an additional table composed of Mrs. J. J. Nork of Keystone Heights, Fla, Mrs. J. Frank Lowe, Mrs. Lott Rogers and Mrs. F. D Goodale was added to the two- table of club members. Delicious refreshments were served at the conclusion of the card game and prizes at the three tables were won by Mrs. M. M. Reasonover, Mrs. F. D. Goodale and Mrs. T. Mount Pleasant Plantation, near Char lotte-Thompson, for Mr. Boykin’s niece, Mrs. Wm. S. Rose (Meta Boykin, Jr.) and Mr. Rose of Mid dleton, Ohio, who are spending some time at the L. W. Boykins at Boykin. Gaithers Give Second In Series Of Parties Mr. and Mrs. H. Granger Gaith er, Greene street, gave the second in a series of cocktail parties on Saturday evening at their home. 1 Their guests were members of the winter ^colony who are leaving for the summer, and a few Cam den friends. The first of the parties) liven by the Gaither’s was on last Saturday evening, May 28. ***** Draft Board Asks Fifteen Men To _ Complete Papers The names of 15 men from this area who have neglected to mail in their completed Classification Questionnaires to the Selective Service Local Board were re leased for publication by Chair man Marion B. Williams of Selec tive Service Local Board No. 28 for Kershaw county. Chairman Williams urged all registrants who have received Questionnaires to return them within the time permitted by law to the Selective Service Local Board for Kershaw county lo cated at the American Legion building, and in the case of tran sient registrants the Questionnaire should be returned to the local board which has jurisdiction over the registrants. Chairman Williams pointed out that Questionnaires are sent out for the purpose of classifying those registrants in the vulnerable age group and not necessarily for the purpose of immediate induc tion into the armed forces. Vet erans are particularly requested to complete and return the Clas sification Questionnaires. Many in this group.
