Be It ordained by tbe Mayor and Councilmen of the-Oity of Camden, In Council aasembied and by the authority of the same. Section 1. Every peraon, firm, company or Corporation, engaged bn May 1. 1948.in hoy calling, baa^j nesa profeaalon or occupation in whole or in part within the City of Camden, aa may be hereinafter apecitied, aball obtain during the month of May, 1948, a license THB CAMOm CHROWICLl, CAMOK9I, tOUTM CAROLIWA, FRiDAY, APRIL may evince the amount of llcenee tax for,which such party ahall be liable. Prom the information thns ac quired the Mayor shall find and assess tbe amount of license tax due by such party whether he.^she or it attended the investigation or not, and shall add thereto penalty of fiteen per cent thereof and should such license tax and penalty be not paid within five days there after, tbe said Clerk and Treasurer shall issue an execution therefor under her hand, and the seal of the City of Camden, directed to the chief of police of the City of Cam den, or tbe Sheriff of Kershaw County in said State and the said Section 8. The following asm or sums of money are required to be paid to tbe taid Clerk and Treas urer for a license to carry on the busineaa, calling, profession er oc cupation in whole or in part with in the limits of the City of Cam den, as in each case specifically appears. Every person, firm, company or corporation engaged in or intending to engage^Ip any call ing business, profession or occupa tion for which a license is required, shall kpply to the Clerk and Treas urer of the City of Camden for the same—by whom all such licenses shall be issued, and shall at the time of applying, make and sign a written statement under oath and file it with the said Clerk and* Treasurer, setting fdrth: First, his . or her or Its name or style, the name of the persons const’ltuting such firm or company. Second, the calling, business, profession or oc cupation for which license is re quired. Third, the place where such calling, business, profession or oc cupation is to be carried on; the amouht of capital invested or the gross, annual »income. Treasurer shall notify the per.son, firms, companies, or corporation in ^ default to appear before the Mayor at his office at a time stated in said notice; and also such witness amine. The witnesses called as aforesaid shall l)e examined by the Mayor under oath or affirmation, touching the nature of the business of such party, and everything which of taxes, togetner with an addition al five per cent of the whole amounk, which shall be the sberiff’s or chief of poliee’a compensation for making such collection In ad dition to one dollar for making such levy, which shall be paid by delinquent without entry or.mile age fees; provided, however, that any person or corporation shall have the right of appeal to the City Council of Camden (notice of such appeal haring been given to the Clerk and Treasurer within five days from the time of which such assessment of license and pen alty shall have been made) and upon hearing such appeal, the said Council shall make such order therein as it shall deem Just and proper; and provided further^ that in lieu of the remedy above set forth to enforce payment an ac tion or actions may be brought in any court of competent jurisdiction for the recovery of such license tax and penalties. And provided further, that any peraon, firm, com pany or corporation 'who shall carry on, or attempt to carry on any call ing, businesa. profession of occu pation without a licenae as herein required or who shall neglect or refuse to give the informaflon re quired or to ankwer such queatton as may be required or who shall fall to attend before the Mayor to be examined by. him when ao re quired, as provided-In Sectioaa 2 aqd 3 of this ordinance may be deemed guilty of a violation thereof before the Municipal Court and may be fined not more than One Hundred }{lQUa,ra, or to ba imprlaonad not ex ceeding thirty days. Section 4. All lioeasei granted under this ordinaiioe shall be post ed in a oonspiclons place, except in case of vehte^ for hire/ which vehloies shall hatw* placed upon them metal badges with the num ber of badges and tha license year marked thereon such badges tor be furnished by the Clerk end Treaa urer upon payment of the license tax. Failure to display such badges will subject the persons owning or using tha same to a penalty of not more than Five Dollars or impriaon-^ ment not exceeding ten days. The license granted under this ordin ance shall at all times be subject to Inspection by any officers of the City of Camden and no calling, business, profession or occupation shall be carried on elsewhere than; the-^ place named in this license therefor, unless authority be grant ed by tho Clerk and Treasurer, which authority shall he endorsed OH tho license. .Section 5. All licenses granted under this ordinance shall continue in force until the-flrst day of May, A n, 1949. except such as are foun# not to, be proper persons to run said automobiles or trucks, license to the'owners or same shall be revoked unless ssid drivers are immediately taken off said anto- moblle or trucks.
