Do you remind any body of Him? Is your life Qirist* like? Hare yon partaken of that divine nature? Yon mean to tell me,, old man—listen—do you mean to tell me that if Paul sat at table in your house, long before the meal was over yon would know he was a Christian. To follow Christ means that yon and I are going to deny enraelres, and if you say, what do yon mean by that, I mean the same principle that Paul meant when he said that “If eating meat causes my brother to stumble, I will refrain from eating it,” and if you and I have been born of the Holy Ghost and by that act have been Adopted into the family of God. then we are going to be very careful about our influences as Christian men and women. Listen! We all want Blaster Sun day, and I want to tell yon, old man, a man does not Icnow the joy and the power and the strength that can come from contact with Jesus Christ, only as be is ‘Willing to suffer with ^Him. But I want to tell ypu that there are some of us in this audience tonight, some /ot you women, you know Just as well as I do that your influence as Christians today has been spoOed because of your fondness for world ly things, and yet yon expect the Son of God is going to take yon by toe band and say, “Well done.” 7 UKB fJ"! a Sister, He won’t lie simply to plaase.you. And you know fmt as well as I do, without my tolling you. that the reason some of you women can’t pray to praying meet ing, and the reason some of you have been to the church tor thirty years aad yet if God dropped out of the clouds tonight yon couldn’t point to a single soul that yon have led to Jesus Christ, because yon are tied up with the things in the world, and people don’t take any stock in your influence because of worldly things, and whwi Jesus said. “Deny yourself,” what did He mean? He meant to deny yonrself anything that spoils your influence and ruins your character and damns your body. It is His will that you and I should be the big gest and finest and the strongest that He can possibly make ns. We are supposed to be A pecultsr people, a light on a hill, the salt that savors the world. That is our business, sir, and I want to tell you. old man, that this comes down to bottom rock, this is not a sur face thing. To follow Him means simply that yon and I have got to be willing to deny ourselves. 1 remember on one occasion when my oldest boy. Jack, was 17 and was attending a military school in the state of Virginia, on dne of his vacations be'asked me if he could do something that most of the boys at the school were doing I replied and said, “Jack, it might not hurt you, it has hurt some,* but you might be one of the lucky ones, but if it were noised ab/oad that my son was indulging in that thing it might hurt my influence with certain people, as a minister of the Gospel, and they might even say that Gipsy Smith, Jr., ought to preach to his own children before he preaches to mine. And I have felt that you loved me too much. Jack, to do -anything that would spoil your father’s influence as a minister of the Gospel.” I shall nevtr forget how Jack stood up in front of me with tears in his eyes, and said, “Dad, don’t worry, I am too proud of your po sition as a minister of the Gospel to do anything that would hart your influence.” Folks, that ought to be exactly your position and mine. We have been born into the family of God, Christ is our elder brother. With Him we are Joint heirs to a great taberitanee.
