The story as told by the Kershaw paper follows: ' THE CAMDIN CMHONlCLt, CAMBKW, SOOTH CAWOLIMA^^IUDAY^^gltmjSjS, “Numbers of erstwhile Ker shaw residents learned this week that an April Fool's prank of considerable magnitude had been played on them, when re sults of a town survey reveal ed that large slices of what had for years.. been considered town territory actually lay out side the town's limits. “The survey was completed as part of a plan for replace ment of the official map of the town destroyed with other valu able documents in a fire sev- Feral years dgo. “Residents hnd officials here have for years proceeded un der the assumption that the town's corporate limits were in the form of a square, and taxes ^nd municipal services have been determined on that basis. "The surveyors, however, found that copies of the drigi- nal town plat on file in state offices in Columbia designate the limits as a radius of one half mile drawn from a center at the old railroad pas-senger station. No changes of the oroginaily designated limits have been discovered, and it is ■ assumed that the original lim- /its stlnd. r “Major .effect of tfce ' din- covery is that large nnmbers of residents in the excluded sections technically are reoelT- ing services and paying as resi dents of the town, as they have done, for many years. “A meeting of. the town’s council will be hefd Monday night to consider steps to be taken with regards to the high- - Jy nnusnal situation. “The town’s goy;emlng body also is taking bids for installa tion of another w^l for the town's water supply.
