Mias Edwards presided daring the remainder of the conference, and samniarlzed the highlights of dia- rgsslon at the close of the meet ing. Mrs. Blanch R, Speed, district supervising nurse of the state -de partment of health, discussed and demonstrate Aeacher-inapection of school children for deviations from health and for beginning signs of fommunicable disease. Mrs. Inez Iddings, teacher helper for Ker- (,haw and Richland counties, dis- fussed health education In the i iassroom and ways of making the child's health experiences educa tional. Miss Jennie McMaster dis cussed records and materlafs as HOW being used and as planned for jthe immediate future. The school health demonstration at the Kirkwood school has been in operation for about one year. It IS one of the few negro school (.emon-stratlons In the state. Because of the fact that the na tional coaches meeting was being held in New York it was impos sible to secure a coach as speaker, po instead of having a principal speaker a number of vl.sltorc and guests were called upon, including Frank Harden, sportscaster of Radio Station WIS, Columbia; Jake Penland, sports editor of The State; J. G. Richards, superin tendent of the schools; Coach Pierce, Rcbin Zemp, C. T. Baldwin, Frank H. Heath and others. All of the speakers com mended the clean football play ed by the team and. the go^ fight that it alwaya put up. Coach Pierce was especially com plimentary to the squad for the splendid manner in which "it kept training and for the_flne efforts displayed during the season. Shown In Camden A new line of Ford trucks is be ing shown in Camden for the first time week at a special dis play and open house held by Red- t'earn Motor Co. * The streamlined models, new from the wheels up, represent the first post-war products of Ford, eccording to Charles DeLoache, manager He said .that the new trucks are. notable for an unprecedented range of models and capacities as well £8 many engineering changes. The new aeries. F-7 and F-8, are the largest ever manufactured by Ford. ’They have maximum gross 'ehlcle weights of 19,000 to 21,500 pounds respectively. Another new series Is the six-cylinder, cab-over- engine model. ’Three new power plants are available for the new trucks—a 95- horaepower six cylinder engine, a and 145- lOO-horsepower V-8, horsepower V-8. The new trucks are attractively btyled without losing ruggedness for good performance and long life.
