Health Problems
On January 7, a training confer-

Mias Edwards presided daring the
remainder of the conference, and
samniarlzed the highlights of dia-

ing.
Mrs. Blanch R, Speed, district
supervising nurse of the state -de
partment of health, discussed and
demonstrate Aeacher-inapection of
school children for deviations from
health and for beginning signs of
fommunicable disease. Mrs. Inez
Iddings, teacher helper for Ker-
(,haw and Richland counties, dis-
fussed health education In the
i iassroom and ways of making the
child's health experiences educa
tional. Miss Jennie McMaster dis
cussed records and materlafs as
HOW being used and as planned for
jthe immediate future.
The school health demonstration
at the Kirkwood school has been
in operation for about one year. It
IS one of the few negro school
(.emon-stratlons In the state.

The initial game of a Yellow Jacket-Hornet series of
polo games is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Kirkv^ood
field at 3 o'clock.
Manager Fred Tejan states that he hopes to have
Cyril Harrison and Bubber DuBose in the silks when .these
two teams square off. Other players who will be seen in
the saddle will be Kirby Tupper, Johnny Hosang, Major
Carll, Fired and Eddie Tejan, Luis Ramos, Charley Snbin,
Carl Lightfoot and others. Luis Ramon returned last Tues
day from SaA Antonio, Texas, and is in fine fettle for polo
action. ,

as co-captalns of the 1948 Camden
High School football team was
made at- the annual banquet
tendered by the City of Camden to
the football team on last Thurs
day evening at the Sarsfield hotel.
Morrison, a tackle*, and Bakei, an
end, are two outstanding players

but It was the stout defensive play
of Eddie Tejan that curbed the
Camden offensive drive again and
this time with an all-star woman ^

efforts of the publicity unit of the
polo club was evidenced by .the
fc'cores of North Carolina car® that
were in the enclosure, there being
spectators from Charlotte, Monroe,
Gastonia and several other Tarheel
areas.
Both teams went scoreless In the
first chukker, but In the second
Bostwick broke the ice with the
first goal of the game. He was
followed three minutes later with
a goal by Preece.
Each team scored *“10 the third.
Bostwick registering his second
goal of the afternoon, while I Ight-
loot posted a counter for Camden.

The dinner on TTiursday was at
tended by members of the squad,

served as toastmaster.
Because of the fact that the na
tional coaches meeting was being
held in New York it was impos
sible to secure a coach as speaker,
po instead of having a principal
speaker a number of vl.sltorc and
guests were called upon, including
Frank Harden, sportscaster of
Radio Station WIS, Columbia; Jake
Penland, sports editor of The
State; J. G. Richards, superin
tendent of the schools; Coach
Pierce, Rcbin Zemp, C. T. Baldwin,
Frank H. Heath and others.
All of the speakers com
mended the clean football play
ed by the team and. the go^
fight that it alwaya put up.
Coach Pierce was especially com
plimentary to the squad for the
splendid manner in which "it kept
training and for the_flne efforts
displayed during the season.
A hand was given the cheer
leaders for their part In making the
season a success.
Members of the 1947 squad to

A new line of Ford trucks is be
ing shown in Camden for the first
time week at a special dis
play and open house held by Red-
t'earn Motor Co. *
The streamlined models, new
from the wheels up, represent the
first post-war products of Ford,

The new aeries. F-7 and F-8, are
the largest ever manufactured by
Ford. ’They have maximum gross
