It was n genuine enrprise, and a source of much happiness and joy for Mr. and Mrs. Shebeen. Brothers and a sister and their sons and daughters and grandchil dren gathered to take part in the happy event. It was distinctly a family affair with the only oat- aide gneat being Rev. Edmund Burke of the Catholic church. The guests brought their re freshments and there was plenty to suit the most fastidious and voracioas gppetite. The Junior Welfare League com pleted ita tonsil clinic which was held at the Camden noapital over a period of tour weeks, on Jply 19. There were C2 tonsillectomies performed, snd of this totsl II were for negro children snd 50 for white. * Dr. Murdock Walker, specialist from Sumter, was In charge of the clinic. Drs. Vincent, Shaw, Brun son. Whitaker, and Rhame gave of their time In assisting Dr. Wal ker and in examining all patients. The tonsil clinic tor years has been the major project of the Jun ior League. All projects sponsored by the LMgue and other work done, by its members was with tbe idea of raising money for the largest tonsil clinic ever held. Needless to say, they wero successful. It is Interesting to know that over 100 applications were received for this clinic. All applicants wero checked for eligibility by Mrs. Sal mond of the Public Welfare office, and . some were ruled hut, others were over the 14 year age limit, and'still others were not in prop er physical condition for the opera tion.
