Servicemen’s ’’allowances” totaled $1,204,298, and unemployment com' pensatlon ’’benefits” (to workers oov- ered by the state job-faisnrance law) $134,928. Servicemen’a allowances Incrsased 41 percent oyer the $854,829 paid in February, and unemployment corn- peneation benefits Increased 28.g per cent over th^ $109,196 paid in Feb- luary. In addition to these two types of unemployment payments, the com mission receives and processes claims from ”self-empfoyed” vetersns. The South Caroling Slate Automobile asaociatlon has assisted the state highway patrol in organising a number of school safety petrols in the state by fur nishing the b^ts and badges for the patrol members.
