And when he arrived and found his sweetheart >in a hospital bed recover ing from an operation i>erformed two days before—^was he dismayed? He was not—for in true Tankes sailor fashion he proceeded to get action. So Sailor David hurried to the home of Rev. 8. A. Davis of the Hermitage Baptist church.. But Mr. Davis was also out of the'city. Discouraged and downcast. Richards contended that "our for eign policy is one which we and the rest of the world can understand and one of w^ich every American may well be proud. ’There is nothing secret or evasive about it.” He described the nation’s foreign policy as “a two-edged sword—on the one side co-operative, effort to win the war, on the other, '.international co operation to preserve the peace. ’The initial move in each case was made by those in charge of the foreign policy of the United States.” Judd, saying the United States has proclaimed "certain lofty alms and high principles,” asserted that most people did not believe the govern ment had reduced the general aims to specifio-ebJeetlveB.
