When DaTiid Croft, a sailor, arrlTod
in Camden last Saturday on a two
day furlough, the objective of his
visit was to marry pretty Thelma
Marshall.
And when he arrived and found his
sweetheart >in a hospital bed recover
ing from an operation i>erformed two
days before—^was he dismayed? He
was not—for in true Tankes sailor
fashion he proceeded to get action.
' Hospital authorities could not recall
anything in the pages of Camden

So the sailor boy sallied forth to
get the minister. But here again—it
looked as if Old Man Jinx had him
stymied. For Dr, J. B. Caston of the
First Baptist church, was out of the
city. So Sailor David hurried to the
home of Rev. 8. A. Davis of the
Hermitage Baptist church.. But Mr.
Davis was also out of the'city.
Discouraged and downcast. Sailor
David sat down on the top step of
the Davis home. A car drove up and
to David’s Joy the two men in the car
were Rev. J. T. Davis of Concord. N.
C., and Rev, h. S. Hunnecutt of
Hartsvilie. Rev. Davis was seeking
his brother. When Sailor David found
he was talking to two real live Dap>
tlst clergymen, his Joy knew no
bounds. Excitedly he told of his pre
dicament and both, ministers hurried

Mrs. Nancy Zemp, hospital superinten-
dent assisted others in the hos
pital, had converted Thelma’s room

first wedding on record in the Cam
den hospital took place, the vows
uniting an American sailor in his
natty uniform to a sweet-faced girl of
18 years, confined to a bed as the
result of an operation.

was heard on ’’America’s Town Meet
ing of the Ah’” broadcast last week.
Congressman Richards defended the
United State’s foreign policy in a de
bate with Congressman Walter H.
Judd, republican, of. Minnesota
The congressman debated the ques
tion, ”Do we have a positive foreign
policy?” on the "America’s Town
Meeting of the Air” program broad
cast by the Blue Network.
Richards contended that "our for
eign policy is one which we and the
rest of the world can understand and
one of w^ich every American may
well be proud. ’There is nothing secret
or evasive about it.”
He described the nation’s foreign
policy as “a two-edged sword—on the
one side co-operative, effort to win the
war, on the other, '.international co
operation to preserve the peace. ’The
initial move in each case was made
by those in charge of the foreign
policy of the United States.”
Judd, saying the United States has
proclaimed "certain lofty alms and
high principles,” asserted that most
people did not believe the govern
ment had reduced the general aims
to specifio-ebJeetlveB.
"This is their war, their money,
their sons, their peace, and they will
not subscribe to settlements which
they have bad no opportunity to de
bate ..fully and to help shape through
that debate,” be said.
He called upon the government to
