Me it ordained by tbe City Council of Camden, 'South Carolina, in ^ue session assembled tbe 7th day of Oc tober, 1943. Section 1. It 8faa)l be untowful for the parent, guardian, or o^ner adult person, having the care and custody of a minor between the ages of seven (7) to sixteen (16) years, inclusively, to permit such child to absent himself or herself froib school for the period of the school term and during the law fully constituted hours for school at tendance in the public schools of Camden, South Carolina, PROVIDED, however, that the provisions, of this ohllnance shall not apply to sudh toinors who have completed the tenth grade In a state accredited biglt school: those gainfully employed, actual livelihood or that of their par ent# or guardians; or those exempt under the State Child Labor Law, Tbe above excepttone and provisions may be pleaded as affirmative defenses to any legal action maintained by the City of Camden hqyeunder. Any person violating the provisions* of this ordinance shall upon conviction be fined a sum not more than $60:00 or be imprisoned "not more than 16- days and that such imprisonment may at the discretion of the City Recorder be accompanied with the additional requirement of hard labor on ths streets of said City.
