Midway, Churlosboro, White Bluff, Taxahaw, Bethel Kershaw County Districts, Carjolly (Mt. Plsgahl. (Jates Ford. Providence. Hanging Rock, Oak Ridge, Neds Creek, Kershaw, Westville, Three C's, Thornhlll, Flat Rock. Stoneboro and Botihel J. R. Burns acted In the capacity of chairman in setting up the Board at the request of the City Council, the Staff of Civilian Defense, and the Lions club. It was felt by these groups that the people of this territory could be better served by having a Hoard nearer. Both Lancaster nnd Camden Boards wero very co-operative In helping to sot hp this Board. Mr. Hinson has amassed a collection of letters from patrons of his Star Taxi lino, many from the exclusive winter colony, who declare they have been frequent customers of the taxi line and have always found the service to be excellent with the drivers careful, reliable and courteous. Mr. Hinson did not pull his punches when he charged that Claude Copeland. a rival taxi driver, is the party who contacted the ODT office in Columbia Copeland Threatens Him "Oopelnnd admitted to me he had gone to Columbia and made charges against my taxi line and also asked for an Investigation." said Hinson. "Copeland told me that I had been running the city of Camden and the Police Department long enough and now he was going to give me hell." An aftermath of the investigation and notification by the city police of tho action of the council came Tuesday when State Officer Dick McKlriioii stopped a taxi on Hast DeK.ilb street and arrested the driver, William nranham. when a half gallon i of w hite liquor was found in the car Hranham was taken to the jail and booked on a charge of the possession and transportation of illegil liquor, lie was later released on bail. C., for the year from May 1, 1943, to May 1, 1944, it ordulned by the Mayor and Councilman of the City of Camden, in Council assembled and by thy authority of thy Maine. Section 1. Kvery poreon, firm, company or corporation. engaged on May 1, 11)43, in any calling, bu8lnes?, profession or occupation In whole or in part within the City of Camden, mm may be hereinafter specified, shall obI tain during thy month of May, 1943, a license therefor in the manner hereinafter prescribed. Kvery person, firm, company or corporation commencing business in said city pn or before the first day of Mayt 1943, ijhall In Jlke manner obtain a license therefor before entering upon such calling, bus inoss, profession, or occupation as hereinafter specified. Section 2. Kvery person, firm, company or corporation engaged in or intending to engage In any calling, business. profession or occupation for which a license is required, whall apply to the Clerk and Treasurer of the ( ity of Camden for the same?by [ whom all such licenses shall be isi sued, and shull at the time <|f applying. make and sign a written statement under oath, and file It with the said Clerk and Treasurer, setting forth: First, his or her or Its name or style, the name of the persons constituting such firm or company. Provided, however, that immediate payment may be required in each and every case at the discretion of the said Clerk and Treasurer, and the foregoing provision shall In no wise stay or hinder action to enforce Immediate payment; J which tax and penalty shall be recov| ered In the manner hereinafter prescribed. and If any person, firm, company or corporation required so to do by the terms of this ordinance shall refuse or neglect to make out and deliver to the Clerk and Treasurier of the City of Camden, on or before the time herein required, the statement provided for by Section 2 of this ordinance, or shall make a false statement, or Hhall refuse to take and subscribe an outh or affirmation as to the truth of such statement. or any part thereof; or from any cause shall fail to take out such llgense as may he required by this ordinance, the said Clerk and Treasurer shall report the case to the Mayor, who shall proceed to ascertain as nearly as possible, the business of such person, firm, company, or corporation. for which he. she or it may be liable to a license tax therefor, and in case of deiault for the purpose of such Investigation, the said Clerk and Treasurer shall notify the person, firms, companies, or corporation in default to appear before the Mayor at Ills office?at a time stated in said notice, and also such witnesses as the! Mayor may desire to examine. The' witnesses called as aforesaid shall be ' examined by the Mayor, under oath or affirmation, touching the nature of the business of such party, and every-1 'hing which may evince the amount of license tax for which such partv shall ho liable. And provided further, that any l-erHon. firm, company or corporation who shall carry on, or attempt to carry on any calling, business, profession or occupation without a license as herein required, or who shall neglect or refuse to give the Information required or to answer such question as may be required or who shall fall to attend ?beforo the Mayor to be examined by him when so required, as provided In Section 2 and 3 of this ordinance may be deemed guilty of a vio latiou thereof before the Municipal Court and m.ay he fined not more "limit One Hundred I>ollur8, or to be Imprisoned not exceeding thirty days. The license granted under this ordinance shall at all times be subject to inspection by any officers ftf the City of Camden and no calling, business, profession or occupation shall be carried on elsewhere than the place named in this license therefor. unless authority be granted by the Clerk and Treasurer, which authority shall be endorsed on the license. Section 5. All licenses granted under this ordinance shall continue In force until the first day of May A. D.. lit 11. except such as are written for a shorter period, as may hereinafter be provided. The City Council reserves the right to revoke any license for any cause which to them may seem to he just.
