KIWANIAN* WIN FROM rotariAn? by i? to o acoRfc Evidently Johuuy Van Pnwey Creed knew what he was talktug about wheu he predicted the Klwanis pastlwer* would climb all over the llotarlane in a second diamond squabble betweeu the teauis of the rival service clubs. The double-classification gang took the ltotes into camp at Athletic field last Thursday in a damp battle by a 19 to 8 score, almost a replica of the 22 to 7 defeat the ltotarians handed out in the Initial encounter. The result of the Thursday fracas put the series In a oueall tie and the final and deciding game will be played at Athletic field on Thursday, August 18. at 8 p. m. liasll Hruce who bold'the Klwanlaus helpless In the Initial game played on July 6, was nicked for sixteen blows ! by the Creed boys Thursday, while his mates slid all over the slippery park to post the amazing total of twelve bobbles. The Hotes got to the elusive slants of Creed for nine hits, but they wore all scattered. The game was n\>t without its thrills dd ,TV uJl Uo . * "w r duced the first triple play over registered In a softball game in Camden and the player who was alert enough to start the three-way killing was Kev. Dryeo Herbert, shortstop for the Klwanls team. It happened in the third when after Hums had singled and gone to second on Ancrum's single John delxmch hit a looping low drive over the pitcher. Herbert took the ball on his shoe laces, stepped on second before Hums could get back and then shot the ball to Artie Clark at tirst to got deLoach. The Klwanlaus went on a scoring spree in the first frame, when three hits tlve errors and a walk, puL eight counters over the plate. They added a run In the third, three in the fourth, one In the fifth, one in the sixth and tlve In the seventh. Herbert and Tupper were the hitting demons of the clan with three hits each. Teh Kiwanians booted the ball but, four times. Hruce was one of the outstanding heroes of the game, even though his team was beaten. The captain of the Rotes, who has a badly eripyled leftj flipper, was game enough to go in an. pitch the entire game when no one could be found who was adequate for mound duty. Hruce played his position beautifully. The teams lined up as follows. Klwanlaus: Herbert, second base; MeCarlev, shortstop; Creed, pitcher, Wilson, 'third base; Hall, left held; Humphries. Jeft field; Tapper, center field- Shirley, catcher; Robinson, short field; Clark, first base; and B. Robinson, right Held. Rotariuns: Burns, first base, - n crum, center field; deLoach, third base; Karesh. left field; Moore, short field; Mays, second base; Hall secon base; Mullins, catcher; Llewellyn, right field; Bruce, pitcher; and L Pearce, short field. Chatter of the Game That triple play engineered by Rev. Herbert was a sweet bit of thinking and alertness. Tom Ancrum. relied upon to lead the offensive for the Rotes was all iu after a mad dash from Sumter and managed to grab but one hit in tour times up. * Stau Llewellyn offered his new and patented method of snaring fly balls. He calls It the tummy force breaker. * Sam Karesh had a pleasant vacation in left field. John deLoach and Western Union Mays staged several sit down strikes during the afternoon, later being Joined by Bill Moore. Jack Mullln Qabby Harnetted back of the-bat In major league style. He had to because the Missus was on the players bench watching him every minute. Irv Pearce did some high class fielding out in short center. * We hope that Basil Bruce'a patriotism did not result in added Injury to that left wing, hurt In a recent city league game. He's a plucky lad we'll say. And did Moultrie Burns strut a regular Hank Greenberg brand of work around the Initial sack. Creed renfiy pitched a nice game and deserved to win. Wilson at third did not miss many and had a nice peg across. the diamond. MoCarley wowed them all in handling the shortstop assignment. Doc Humphries knocked all tho microbes off the horsehide with his willow wand. Theopolls Hall did some nice work sliding around In left garden. o Arthur Clark would have made Hal Trosky blush for shame had the eminent Indian first sacker seen him Inj reaction, * ? Andy Kirby Tupper, well that laddie should be in the city league. He plays a nifty fielding game and can clout the old apple. ? What a wow the third and deciding game will be.
