The attitude as expressed by the governor will not get the state anywhere, will maice no contribution to progress or help solve the many perplexing issues now confronting the people. This highway is.->ue has been greatly exaggerated. There are greater dangers confronting the state than this question, and all of the effort to create excitement and political prejudice is of secondary importance. Can't vvn have a cessation from personal politics in this state? Iiural Police Force For Kershaw County The Kern-haw delegation lias introduced a local bill in the house which calls for four rural policemen for Kershaw county. The bill will be effective immediately upon its passage, and it is expected the new force will be in operation after the first of April. The text of the bill is as follows: "That the said four patrol officers shall be selected one each from certain Townships in said county, as 1 now exists in thfe election of the County Board of Directors, and the said four townships in Kershaw county us is now established for the county government townships shall also be known as the rural police district. That each of said patrol officers so ' appointed shall be able-bodied men of good habits, of known courage, coolness and discretion, and who are not addicted to the use of alcoholic liquors or drugs, and who shall hold their office for one year from the date of their appointment, subject to removal by the sheriff of said county. "The sheriff of Kejrshaw county shall have direction and control of said patrol officers to the township in which he shall work each month; and he shall meet with them at least once a week to confer and advise with them and see that they ate alert and! informed as to their duties and are' enforcing the laws throughout thej county. Said patrol officers shall1 make a weekly report to the sheriff of their work, and the sheriff shall, twice a year, report to the grand jury on the activities of said -police system; a copy of each report shall be filed with the board of directors to be kept on file for public inspection.
