Four tables were placed for bridge in the spacious rooms, which were decorated in lovely garden tlowers. Mrs. B. O. Boykin received the first uprise, a lovely card table cover; Mrs. F. W. Spencer the second prize, which was two decks of cards. Mrs. Warren Hurris received third prize, and was presented with a lovely box of stationery. Those attending the plant exchange at Mrs. Kirkland's on Monday found it the most pleasant ^possible way of getting new plants for their gardens. It is a pity that more people did not come and take advantage of this delightful way of exchanging courtesies. It is learned in Columbia th^t the state sinking fund commission will reimburse school boards of the six schools damaged in upper South Carolina in the recent storm. A narrow belt was cut by the disastrous winds in Greenville, Union, Spartanburg, and Cherokee counties. Malcolm Miller, secretary of the commission, said the total amount of damage has not been ascertained but gave as hie opinion that it may run to several thousand dollars.
