One of the prettiest parties of the
week was that given at the homo of

Monday afternoon. Four tables were
placed for bridge in the spacious
rooms, which were decorated in lovely
garden tlowers. Mrs. B. O. Boykin
received the first uprise, a lovely
card table cover; Mrs. F. W. Spencer
the second prize, which was two decks
of cards. Mrs. Warren Hurris received
third prize, and was presented
with a lovely box of stationery. Mrs.
Ida Heath received a most attractive
bowl for fourth prize and Mrs. William

After a most enjoyable evening
the hostess served a delicious
course of ice cream, cake and coffee.

Mrs. Rhetta Halsall delightfully entertained

hot rolls and eoffee were served by

Cadet C. E. Watts, a member of
the Senior Class of the Citadel where
he holds the rank of first lieutenant,
who is president of the Citadel Glee I
Club, is also a member of the 1932
Pass-In-Review to be presented in

Contract Club Met Thursday
Mr. and Mrs. F. 1). Goodale were

bridge club Wednesday evening and
an extra table. Those playing with

George W. Potter. Mr. and Mrs. J.

ladies and gentlemen, while MrS.

proprietor, personally showed
them through thU modern end sanitary
plant explaining in detail all the
different processes through which the
garments passed in being cleaned.
Quite interesting also was the way in

iron the work. After the tour of inspection

Garden Club will be held on Monday,
April 11, at 4 o'clock in the hfternoon,
at the home of Mrs. L. I. Guion, at
Lugoff.
Mrs. E. N. McDowell is in charge
of transportation,- Anyone wishing
to offer space in their car please telephone
number 294, and if those wanting
to be driven to the meeting will
call Mrs. McDowell, she will see that
they are accommodated.
Those attending the plant exchange
at Mrs. Kirkland's on Monday found
it the most pleasant ^possible way of
getting new plants for their gardens.
It is a pity that more people did
not come and take advantage of this
delightful way of exchanging courtesies.
It is learned in Columbia th^t the
state sinking fund commission will reimburse
school boards of the six
schools damaged in upper South Carolina
in the recent storm. A narrow
belt was cut by the disastrous winds
in Greenville, Union, Spartanburg,
and Cherokee counties. Malcolm
Miller, secretary of the commission,
said the total amount of damage has
not been ascertained but gave as hie
opinion that it may run to several
thousand dollars.

The elimination for the state spelling
contest for Kershaw county was
held Saturday morning, under the direction
of County Superintendent,

There were not as many contestants
this year as usual ,but the competition
wus keen and all of tho
young spellers upheld the honors of
the school represented.
