Dennis, two state constables, J. D. Myers and N. Rourk, and four other Berkeley county denizens, were indicted by the federal grand Jury at Florence yesterday for conspiracy to violate the prohibition law and will be prosecuted in the court at Charleston in January by an attorney from the office of Mrs, Mabel Wildebrant. The indictment is an echo of the failure of Governor Richards to oust the sheriff and deputy sheriff of Berkeley county, after tbe sheriff had testified in the governor's office that ho had fallen from grace at parties given by Senator Dennis with Governor Richards as one guest. -Governor Richards was a witness before the grand'Jury at Florence to testify that he appointed the two constables on the recommendation of Senator Dennis. Other witnesses were Sheriff Ballentine and his Qeputy Woodward, both removed from office by edict of the governor' and replaced the same day by the courts. The indictment of the seven men has three counts, one for conspiracy detailed in it, one .charging that Senator Dennis while county attorney instructed Deputy Woodward to deliver 100 gallons of hootch to one of the bootleg m-gerd indicted, and the third charging that one of the men delivered a large quantity of booze to unother one who Stored and sold it. The influenza epidemic has reached such proportions in Greenville county that nearly all homes contain cases, and It is as widespread as that of 1918. The disease is not so intense now as then, however, and fewer cases are fatal. Miss Louise Mobley, of this community and Clftudn Anderson, of 'Bethune were married at Bishopvllle on the 21st of November and are residing here for the present. Mr, Alec Young was carried to the Columbia hospital last week for an operation and was doing nicely when lust heard from. Miss Clara Gordon returned home Sunday evening from the Columbia hospital where she had undergone a ^ninor operation. A revival meeting is being held at the Presbyterian church this week. The services are in charge of evangelist, J. Walter , Cobb, of Columbia and song leader, Claude Mcintosh also of Columbia. The Rev, M. B. Cunter has been attending the Baptist State convention which has been in session in Columbia during the week, Mrs. A. K. McLaurin and Miss Mu Hoy I lesi on accompanied by Misses Mury Louise McLaurin and Lizzie Davis, of Chicora college motored to Greenville to attend the ClemsonFurrnan foot ball game last Thursday. Mr. and 'Mrs. H. B. Smith and children, of Columbia spent Thanksgiving at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Robertson. Dr. Eldon Severance, of Columbia, accompanied by Misses Eunice and Eva and Clifton Severance, of this Blace spent Thanksgiving day at avidson college with hiH brother, Lavin Severance. Miks Katherine Ward, of Coker college spent the weekend at home. Mrs. E. R. Cleckley and Mrs. F. G. Cledkley, of Cope have been the recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Lafitte. Dr. and Mrs. It. A. Griffin and children have been spending several days with relatives in Greenville. Dr. Eldredge Baskins has returned to Baltimore after a. few days business trip to Bethune. Mrs. Lizzie Dalrymple, of Darling ton is the guest of Mrs. Joanna Caston. Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Mays und Mrs. C. L. Mays carried a car full of little children to Columbia Monday afternoon to see Santa Claus take possession of his bungalow on the Stute..house grounds.
