State Senator E. J. Dennis, two
state constables, J. D. Myers and N.
Rourk, and four other Berkeley county
denizens, were indicted by the
federal grand Jury at Florence yesterday
for conspiracy to violate the
prohibition law and will be prosecuted
in the court at Charleston in January
by an attorney from the office of
Mrs, Mabel Wildebrant. The indictment
is an echo of the failure of
Governor Richards to oust the sheriff
and deputy sheriff of Berkeley county,
after tbe sheriff had testified in the
governor's office that ho had fallen
from grace at parties given by Senator
Dennis with Governor Richards
as one guest. -Governor Richards
was a witness before the grand'Jury
at Florence to testify that he appointed
the two constables on the
recommendation of Senator Dennis.
Other witnesses were Sheriff Ballentine
and his Qeputy Woodward,
both removed from office by edict of
the governor' and replaced the same
day by the courts. The indictment
of the seven men has three counts,
one for conspiracy detailed in it,
one .charging that Senator Dennis
while county attorney instructed
Deputy Woodward to deliver 100 gallons
of hootch to one of the bootleg m-gerd
indicted, and the third charging
that one of the men delivered a
large quantity of booze to unother
one who Stored and sold it.

tranged son, Allen A. Ryan, prominent
several years ago for his part in the
Stutz Motor corner on the stock
market. Mr. Ryan left a fortune
estimated at more than two hundred
million dollars. Father and son had
been at odds for,a number of years.
They quarreled, it is said, after the
elder Ryan's second marriage ten
years - ago and never quite became
reconciled.

Five men were burned to death six
miles north of Spur Texas Saturday
afternoon when the tri-motored airplane
in which they were riding enroute
from San ^Antonio to Denver
crashed and burst into flumes. Homer

plane was piloted by Matthew Watson,
San Antonio, commercial pilot.
Tammany Hall spent more money
in the last election than it over spent
on a campaign in its history, according
to a report filed by the Democratic
party in New York county this
week. The treasurer reported the receipt
of $327,037.50 and the expenditure
of $245,173.39.
The influenza epidemic has reached
such proportions in Greenville
county that nearly all homes contain
cases, and It is as widespread as that
of 1918. The disease is not so intense
now as then, however, and fewer
cases are fatal.

at Bishopvllle on the 21st of November
and are residing here for the

Mr, Alec Young was carried to the
Columbia hospital last week for an
operation and was doing nicely when
lust heard from.
Miss Clara Gordon returned home
Sunday evening from the Columbia
hospital where she had undergone a
^ninor operation.
A revival meeting is being held at
the Presbyterian church this week.
The services are in charge of evangelist,
J. Walter , Cobb, of Columbia
and song leader, Claude Mcintosh
also of Columbia.
The Rev, M. B. Cunter has been attending
the Baptist State convention
which has been in session in Columbia
during the week,
Mrs. A. K. McLaurin and Miss
