The /uling was based on a defense claim that it has not been given an oppor > tuniiy to impeach the testimony ot state's 'witnesses. The caso of Nickles, a young bar ber, whose aged mother in Green wood has stood by his aide in the four year fight for his life, created wide interest. When, he was first brought to trial he declared he wanted to bv' hanged and entered a pica of guilty. The death penalty was immediately impos^pt. Litter, however, Nickles usserted ho had boon intimidated into making his guilty plea and protested his inno: 'ounce of t ho charge.
