The bride is not .a stranger in Camden, having visited, here several times before her marriage and with charm, tact and graciousness won many friends. Contribution From Camden. Mr. George L. Kicker, treasurer of the Sumter County Tornado Relief Committee, has received from the Camden committee a check for $134.17,. this being the final remit tance of the fund contributed by citi zens of Camden and Kershaw county for the relief of the tornado victims of Sumter county. Previous remit tances totalled about $1,200, and this check brings the total contributed by Camden up to approximately $1,350. The exact figures cannot be given us all of his records and funds in hand were turned over to the lied Cross when that organization took over the relief work in Sumter counly. ? Sum ter Item. Suicide in Chesterfield. Jefferson, July 29. ? The town and community were shocked and sad dened Sunday morning when it was learned that Jeff Funderourk had committed suicide. It seems that after a conversation with his son he walked into the ad joining room and shot himself through the head, dying instantly. Legion Auxiliary To Meet. I). Price, owner, was the only occupant of the store at the time of the hold up. He fired two shots at the motor car as it dashed away from the scene. Both shots went wild. The loss was reported at $17.80, all i the cash the money drawer contained. Columbia Boy Killed in Florence. Florence, July 2i>.? -Bertie Coward, 1(5 year old son' of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Coward of Coumbia, was killed near Coward, Florence county, this afternoon, when his automobile ran into a ditch and overturned His skull was crushed. The body will be shin 1 ped to Columbia for the funeral. Boy Scout News. The weekly meeting of Troop 2 ot the Camden Boy Scouts was held Friday July 2o. The meeting was opened with the Lord's prayer, then the roll was called and 18 scouts answered to their names. After the dues had been collected the scout master told us of having challenged the troop of scouts out at Wateree Mills to a track meet which we hopo to see come off in about two weeks. The hike that we had planned at the ?last meeting for July 26 was then dis cussed. All of the boys were sorry to hear J hat Mr, de Loach could not be with jis as he had planned but Saturday Mr. Mur.tain was on hand and about fifteen boys hiked out to the old pond. Summer Session Satisfactory. The summer session for delinquent - pupils of the Camden schools, the first attempt at a systematized effort on the part of the school authorities as' ai) aid to pupils making up con ditions. came to a close with exami nations on July 21st. This work is to be taken as a marked success not only because of the response to it from the patrons Imt on account of the excellent service rendered by the teachers employed. For the class room work teachers were selected who have been regular teachers in the system. For the grammar grades Mrs. L. T. Mills, Mrs. (Jeorge Taylor and Miss Emily L. Zemp, and for the high school work Mr. W. A. Clark, Jr., Miss Agnes Corbet t, Miss Henrietta Zemp and Miss Mary Black well were as signed for the summer work. The school was run for a term of five weeks including Saturdays, end - ? ing with regular examinations on the work covered. Pupils attending were charged at a moderate rate which was considerably less . than that usually charged for summer tutoring. The number in the elementary de partment taking the summer work was fifty-five and in the high school department twenty-five. J. G.
