C, F. Molair, 'of Barnwell, has a mule that can qualify for a (Carnegie modal, she having saved a young calf from drowning a few days ago. It seems that a neighbor had pastured one of his cows and her young calf on Mr, Moluir's place, which i? farmed by' Will Taylor, no gro. There was quite a deep, hole in the pasture that was nearly filled with* water hy the recent heavy rains. The he calf ventured too near the hole and fell in. The mule, whose name is Rosa, was in another part of the pasture at the time, but was attracted to the scene by the nunirnful cries of the distressed mother tow, Rose im mediately grasped the situation and with almost human intelligence at* tempted to rescue the calf by catch* ing hold of its ears with her Veth. Although the ear was nearly bit'tcn off, the calf slipped front her grip and went under the water, whereupon the mule dropped to her knees, im mersed her head, seized the calf with her teeth and threw it about ten feet Week -End Fares To Mountain and Seashore Resorts.
