Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rhea Ball of this town and New Haven have an nounced the engagement of their daughter "Alice Irving Ball" to Dr. Andrew Burnett Whitaker, son of Mr. and Mra. Caleb Clarke Whitaker of Camden, S. C. Miss Ball attended the Baldwin School Bryn fflaur, and is a member j of the Junior League of New Haven. Miss Ball spent the winter in Cam den last year, her father being the new manager of the "Court Inn"* Dr. Whitaker attended the College of Charleston^ anfl graduated from the Medical School of South Carolina. He is a member of the A. T. O. Fra ternity and' also a member of the Theta Kappa Psi Medical Fraternity. The wedding of this popular couple will take place in October. MISS CAROLYN HEYMAN, BR1 DE-ELECT, FETED. Miss Carolyn Heyman whose mar riage to Melton Goodstein, of Flor ence, will be solemnized on September 6th, was complimented on Friday af ternoon by Miss Rosalie Block with five tables of bridge. The Block home on DeKalb street was attractively arranged in midsum mer flowers. Before the bridge games a frozen frutt salad course, sandwiches, cakes and hot cheese bis cuits were served. Miss Heyman's place was marked with a lovely corsage of pink rose buds and snapdragons. In the bridge games the high score prize was won by Mrs. Harry Baum and 2nd high by Mra. Leon Schlosburg. Mrs. Wald of New York and Mrs. Sam Wittenbery of Cleveland, Ohio, were presented guest prizes. Miss Heyman, the hon or guest received a trousseau gift. David Kirschner entertained on Thursday afternoon with a bridge shower honoring Miss Carolyn Hey man, popular bride-elect of Septem ber. The lower floor of the attractive Kirschner home on Rectory aPrk was thrown ensuite, a color scheme of yel low and white was used in the decor ations and refreshments. As the ijue^ts arrived tbey were in vited into the dining room, where from a beautifully appointed table centered with a silver bowl of mixed flowers, yellow and white block cream iced cakes, baskets <jt yellow and white mints and punch were served. The card tablets were arranged on the lovely cool porch, the bride-elect's place was marked with a corsage of yellow roses. In the bridge games the high score prize was won by Mre. Mannes Baruch and the low score prize by Mrs. S. W. Vanlandingham. The out-of-town guests, Mrs. Julius Love of Harbsville, Mrs. Sam Witten berg of Cleveland and Mrs. Joe Ba ruch of Murrel's Inlet were presented , gifts. After the card games the hostess | invited the guests back into the din- 1 ing room, There the bride-elect was showered with lovely miscellaneous gifts. At one end of the dining-room table the bride's cake, beautifully iced was cut, each guest receiving a piece. Mrs. Leon Schlosburg got the wedding ring, Miss Rosalie Black tho thimble, Mrs. jdfeis Love of Hartsvillo the dime, and Miss Doris Babin tho but ton. This man told relief officials that his name was Fulton Page and wan from Charleston but he told others that his name was Mitchell. Ho told Mr. Gregory that he ran a filling sta tion at Heath Springs. Several of the local automobile dealers were endeavoring to sell him a second han<?ed car.
