Jones as Secretary -Treasurer and co-manager, i The business was a success from the very start and has shown a steady and satisfactory growth every year since. ? { A full line -of hardware, sporting goods, paints and building supplies is handled by the Mackey company. The company has the a?v?ncy in Camden for the famous Wright and Ditson line of sporting goods, which are known throughout the country for their high quality and reasonable price. A comprehensive line of farm im plements is also handled by the comp any and a very nice business has been built up in this department. The Matkey Hardware Company is an outgrowth of the oldest hardware concern in Camden. The company ha? pushed its paint business during the last few years and has built this department up in a remarkable manner. The paint stock is divided into three grades. The Blue Bell line is the low-priced grade, but is fully guaranteed and is used by many experienced painters. The second grade is Kurfee's Paints, which are medium priced. The third and highest grade is the famous B. P. S. line, manufactured by the Pat terson-Sargent Company. The B. P. S. paints are said to be the finest money can buy and are used by hun dreds of painters who are satisfied with only the best. Last fall there were 22 paint jobs The Mackey Hardware Company pying on in Camden at one time, ami the Mackey Hardware Company fur nished the paint on 20 of them. This shows better anything1 else the fine paint business this progressive con cern has built u<p. This month practically every articl-; in the store is being reduced in price, in order to cut down on moving ex pense. The building formerly occu pied by the Enterprise Mercantile Company, on Broad Street, has been taken over by the Mackey Company and is being completely remodelled. The new quarters, soon to be occu pied, are much larger and better a daipted to the. business than the old. and have the further convenience to the customers of having everything , on a single floor. Now that the major financial pro blems of the nation are rapidly being cleared up, attention in Washington is focusing again on the monetaiy position of silver. ^Senator Pittman of Nevada has introduced a bill for the purchase by the government of five million ounces of silver a month, to be paid for in silver certificates. That prob aJbly wll not be done in just that way, but there are so many people in in fluential financial and political circles who believe that something must be done to restore silver to its money position, and who are working so hard and intelligently toward that end, that we believe that we shall see something effective done about it be j fore very long. The "plant occupies a space of sev The death of Edp?ar Wallace, most iproilfic writer of detective fiction, is a personaf loss to hundreds of thous ands of Americans who have been in the habit of reading every new Wallace book as soon as it came out. No writer ever lived who produced such an immense volume of enter taining stories of such uniformly high quality. Wallace frequently worked on three or four books at once, dictating each to a different stenographer, and more than once wrote an entire full-sized novel in less than a week. He was never at loss for a plot, and his characters carried the stamp of reality. Edgar Wallace was a giant of a man, of apparently limited physical energy, but even the strongest is not proof against pneumonia. There are many other good writers of first-rate detective stories, but none who has Wallace's energy nnd capacity for rapid work. Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler has just celebrated his thirtieth anniver sary as President of Columbia Uni versity in Now York City. Under Dr. Butler's guidance Columbia has become the largest university in the world, with something like thirty thousand students and a staff of three thousand professors and in structors. Thomas Ancrum is manager of the .local plant: Mr. Ancrum has been with the company twenty one years having spent sdx years in Chester, S. C. The local manager has become actively associated with the commun ity and takes pride in those things that would seem to be of help to has city. Camden Loan & Realty Co. The Camden Loan & Realty. Com pany was organized in Camden in 1918 taking out incorporation papers at that time. The company has been ulftisually successful, showng steady and healthy growth since its founding.
