Ghosts as Dreams. The probability that we get snatches of sleep at odd moments when we suppose oursehes to have remained continuously awake is supported by the phenomena of dreams. Mark Twain accounted for his own "disappearing visitor" by the belief that he had unconsciously had a very short nap; and many have explained visions of ghosts as duo to dreams during such short naps.
