The South Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church held Its session in Sumter Nov. 23-27. It was presided over by Bishop Luther B. Wilson, D. D., who it is said proved hfmaolf a nation* fhnrnncrh atirl impartial presiding officer. We learn that the article by Rev. C .C. Scott, and which appeared recently in The Chronicle and also in the Columbia State, was generally discussed and commented on quite favorably, and that the Bishop spoke of it in one of the Cabinet meetings in quite a complimentary manner. Pastor Scott is returned here for another year and judging by the reports of the increased attendance and the increase in the church collections as compared with this time last year, and the enthusiastic reception tendered him last week, his congregation must be highly gratified over his return. The many colored patrons of The Chronicle, particularly the Methodists, will be interested in the Conference appointments for the Bennettsville District which we publish asi follows: H. C. Peculiar Magic of the Right Kind I Advertising. "The Yellow Store" are certaliJM^^| Ing just at this time and now as th^^^^H demonstrating the power of advertUH^^^B are nearing the close of what hac been the most remarkable sale ever B held in this part of South Carolina* 1 ' the people are getting ready to be in at the "finish." Yes, it's a little queer when you stop to think of it?that notwithstanding the strenuosity of the present age ?the thousands of "crowd pulling schemes" floated around on mother \ earth?that by the simple means of \ conservative advertising, a business concern is able to make people literally fall over one another to get into its place of business. It is a bit queer?but nevertheless true, for any *?- - one who will tane uie iruuum watch events in progress at this great store will see continually crowds of eager shoppers?not great rush like the opening days, of course, but in dollars and cents the business is bigger?and why??simply that The Evans Co. have been doing a great deal of the right kind of advertising and that tells the tale. Of course it goes without saying, that any catch penny concern that ca ed to pop up "Into the game could not meet with such success, bat let a reputable concern adopt the right principles of advertising and they could duplicate the great success of the Yellow Store People. It ought to be a lesson to the timid advertiser? the man who says advertising does not pay?this is a good example brought home close and wh^re the results can be seen. ? Mr. John Evans, who has charge of the advertising for this concern, is not radical in his newspaper talk? his ads. are not sensational?but they are interesting and they ring with people feel that this store really can save them money?reasons of course which are set forth in the copy?this is the kind of advertising that get* results. Not many days remain of this great sale?but the big business is yet to come?the week Immediately proceeding Christmas should be a jumper week for this store?all signs polflt that way tpd we shall waich^g^| terest the closing of this grea^flH^^^ MASTER'S SALE.
