The Chronicle first thrust it- 1 self into newsoaperdom ou the I 5th day of November, 1895?just exactly 13 years ago. The out. 1 look for a long life at that time J was pretty slim. In fact some of our most astute business men 1 predicted that The Chronicle 1 ?? -^wglti wet lh o sRt-mtroths. Their prediction was probably based on the fact that others, in many respects, especially financially, better qualified to run a newspaper had dismally failed. However, we directed every one to the motto as printed on the paper?'Tis* Not in Mortals to Command Success, But We'll Do More, We'll Deserve It". And for thirteen long years we have done everything in our powerto deservesuccess. Audwe have succeeded. Today we have i UBre 111 VJIWI ttw uuc uc3ii ci^uipped little printing plants for the size of the town, to be found in the State. And all that we have accomplished is due to the loyalty of our friends here in Cheraw and other sections of the county. Without their sympathy, advice and support we could have accomplished nothing. The Chronicle is not what we would like it to be. We wish, for the sake of our town and county, that we could bring The Chronicle up to our ideal of a weekly paper. This, however, we can never hope to do. We will continue, however, to do the very best under the circumstances that we can to improve and make OKpntiifllc a haffar- nanar1 JL HO VM* w MWW? It is with a feeling of mingled pride and satisfaction that this anniversary edition ofTheOhronicle is unfurled to public view. The edition consists of 7,500 eomplete papers of 16 pages. After much hard labor and expense the issue was created, and in regard to the success of the enterprise we leave the public to judge. The subject matter will appeal to a very large circle ef readers, as the paper will be sent out to every section where it will do the most good, bearing its message of progress and development and the rapidly growing reputation of Cheraw. We hope by this means the people will bebrought into closer touch and that the good work of building up our t.i iw n unH nil i- oonfinn will nnn tinue on the same high plane that it has ior former years. No town in the United States offers more attractions and advantages to the hom'e seeker aud manufacturer than Cheraw. It possesses every qualification of soil, climate and surroundings that contribute to comfort, health und happiuess. Statisticians give us an exceedingly low rate mortality, there being absolutely no influence prevalent deleterious to the health of the people. The manufacturing advantages are fully set forth in another column. - To the stranger into whose hands a copy of this edition may fall, we would ask a careful perusal of its contents. It is no overdrawn picture, but a plain statement of facts. Watched Fifteen Years.
