The Chronicle and Its Work. The Chronicle first thrust it-! self into newsoaperdoin on the| 5th day of November, 1895 ?just j exactly 13 years ago. The out. { look for a long life at that time I was pretty slim. In fact some of our most astute business men i predicted that The Chroniclei i- ? ~trutrid m.Ki liio si inn troths. Their prediction was probably based' on the fact that others, in many j respects, especially financially,' better qualified to run a newspaper had dismally failed. However, we directed every one to the motto as printed on the paper?'Tis' Not in Mortals to Command Success, But We'll Do More, We'll Deserve It". And for thirteen long years we have done everything in our power to deservesuccess. And we have succeeded. Today we have here in Cheraw the best equipped lit'le printing plant, for the size of the town, to be found in the State. And all that we have accomnHshed is due to the loyal ty of our friends here in Cheraw and other sections of the county. Wi-hout their sympathy, advice and support we could have accomplished nothing. The Chronicle is not what we would like it to be. We wish, for the sake of our town and county, that we could bring The Chronicle up to our ideal of a weekly paper. This, however, we can never hope to do. We will continue. however, to do the very best under the circumstances that we can to improve and make The Chronicle a better paper: It is with a feeling of mingled pride and satisfaction that this anniversary edition ofTheOhronicle is unfurled to public view. The edition consists of 7,600 complete papers of 16 pages.
