Enjoying a week’s house party at Dr. Blalock's cottage at Paw ley's were Mrs. Henry M. Younj Sr., Mrs. J. M. Dick, Miss Lana Copeland Dick of Clinton and Mrs. Roe Hamilton, Henry, Bun ny and Nancy of Easley, Mrs. James Moose of York and Mr. and Mrs. T. 0. McKeown of Chester. * * * Mrs. Horace Smith has re turned home after spending last week in Laurinburg, N. C. with her daughter, Mrs. Rick Wells Mr. Wells and granddaughter, Eliott. Friends will be interested in knowing the Wells are moving to Charlotte in June. Mr. Wells has accepted a position with Haskins and Sales Accounting Firm. Mrs. Richard Horne and children, Richard Jr., and San dra of Columbia were weekend guest of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Foster on Carolyn Drive. * * * Hap Williams and Sally Ni chols spent Sunday with Hap’s grandmother, Mrs. Henry M. Young, Sr. and other relatives. * * * Lt. Colonel and Mrs. Frank C. Young, Jr., Frankie HI and Jonelle of Ft. Bragg, N. C. were weekend guests of his mo ther, Mrs. Frank C. Young, Sr. and family. They came especi ally to celebrate Jonelle s seventh birthday. * * * Mrs. Julia Sadler has return ed to her home on Owens St. after being in California for several months. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Ed Burklehave returned to their home in Mass- achusettes after visiting their brother, Mr. A. M. Greenwood who is a patient at Bailey Me morial Hospital. They were luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie McMillian during their short visit here. Many friends of Mrs. Henry M. Young Jr. were saddened to hear of the death of her fa ther, Mr. C. C. Harmon of Char lotte, N. C. Mr. and Mrs. Young and Bob were called to the hos pital and Mrs. Young remained several days with her mother. GRADUATES AT FORK UNION Cadet George Frady, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Frady is a member of the graduating class at Fork Union Military Academy, Fork Union, Va. Mr. and Mrs. Frady, Lynn, Dotty and Barbara will attend the parade Friday, the reception and graduation on Sat urday. Last week Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Patterson attended two days of the South Carolina Funeral Di rectors Convention which was held at Myrtle Beach. Mr. Pat terson is the newly elected Pre sident of the Piedmont Group of S.C.F.D.A. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burney spent the first two days at the convention, also. Mrs. R. M. Sawyer (Nelle Coleman) of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., was a recent guest of Mrs. Nene D. Workman. Mr. and Mrs. I. Mac Adair will leave Sunday for Wichita, Kansas for a two weeks visit with their son and daughter-in- law, Lt. and Mrs. Jim Adair. Mr. and Mrs. HarryMcSween were in Columbia Thursday evening for a concert of the Con cert Chorus and Oratorial Choir of the University of South Caro lina. Their daughter, LuciHe McSween, a University music major, conducted one of the mu sical selections. Mrs. L. E. (Ila) Bigbee is a patient at Self Memorial Hospi tal where she is undergoing tests. * * * Mrs. J. V. Edwards has re turned from an extended visit’ with her daughter, Mrs. Arthur E. Anderson in Lake Worth, Fla. She is visiting a daughter, Mrs. Alex Crawford in Joanna. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Edwards and John met her in Folkston, Ga. and accompanied her home. * * * Citadel Cadet James Darrell Dailey, Jr. son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Dailey of Hickory, N. C. has been named to the Com mandant’s Distinguished Ser vice List. He is a sophomore, holding the rank of corporal anc is majoring in Business Ad ministration. He received the Superior Cadet Decoration A- ward and is enrolled in the Army ROTC program and is the recipient of an ROTC two year scholarship. He is the grand son of Mrs. J. B. Dailey and the late Mr. Dailey. Mr. C. Roy Jenkins is con valescing atSelf Memorial Hos pital after successful surgery on May 18. His daughters Mesdames Robert Few of Bloomington, Ind., and Robert Alexander of Baltimore, Md., have returned to their homes. Mr. R. E. Haynes of Colum bia spent the weekend of the 17th in Clinton with his grandfather, Mr. C. Roy Jenkins. Mr. J. P. Moore of Asheville, N. C. has been a frequent visi tor this month of his brother-in law and sister, Mr. andMrs.C. Roy Jenkins. Mrs. J. B. Dailey, Mrs. Rose Merritt, Mrs. Hugh Williams and Mrs. Leonard L. Cathey spent a few days at Windy Hill Beach last week. School Calendar (Cont. from Page 1.) be at least 10 students in a class in order for a particular course to be offered. The junior high students will attend class two hours per sub ject and senior high students will attend class four hours per subject for six weeks. The week of June 29-July 4th will be a holiday. Summer school will conclude on July 25. June 3 is the last day of the current school year as students will pick up their report cards on that day and will be dismiss ed at 10 a.m. Letter Carriers The Laurens County Rural Letter Carriers Association and their families will have their annual picnic Friday May 29 at the Lake Greenwood home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Poppy Day Set Saturday “United and Service no more fitting tribute could be paid our Poppy Program,” said Mrs. H. M. Young, president of Unit 56, American Legion Auxiliary. Mrs. Young stated that since 1921 when the Memorial Poppy was first adopted, United we have proclaimed to Americans that this small red flower is the flower of remembrance for all Americans. The fashioning of the poppies in the V. A. Hospital in Co lumbia by disabled veterans un der the supervision of vol unteers whose only regard is the satisfaction of service for others is well known to all. Assisting Mrs. Henry Cron- ic, Poppy Days chairman, will be other members of Unit 56 and some of the Blue Birds and Camp Fire girls. The posters in the downtown area are be ing made by the representatives selected for Palmetto Girls State.
