C., April 16, 1970—1-B XvXvXXvXvXvXvXvX-XvX-X-X^ INTERESTING FACTS By Tom Plaxico Here are two oddities. There is no “z” in the word “ounce”—yet the abbreviation of ounce is “oz”. And there is no “1” or “b” in the word “pound”—but the abbreviation for pound is “lb.”! Here’s another amazing fact. If you spelled out all the numbers, starting with one, two, three, four, etc., and kept going all the way up, you would NOT use the letter “a” until you reached one- thousand ! Oddly enough, even though Smith, Jones, Wil liams and Brown are four of the most numerous sur-names in America, we have never had a presi dent, vice-president or U. S. chief justice named Smith, Jones, Williams or Brown. This is the final of our “Interesting Facts” columns. We hope you have found it informative.
