Edward L. Brown left the city on Monday for Ft Dix, N. J. From there he will go to Cali fornia where he is to embark for Vietnam. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Brown of South [St Pvt James R. Williams of Ft Jackson, S. C. spent the past weekend with his wife Mrs. Mar garet J. Williams and other fami ly members. Rev. and Mrs. W. D. Coker of Gray Court, were recent over night guests of Mr. and Mrs. Booker P. Calhoun. Mrs. Lillie R. Sanders of South Bell St. is recuperating from a recent illness. Dr. J. T. W. Mims attended the State NAACP Convention at South Carolina State College from Dec. 4-6. Dr. Mims is Laurens County NAACP Branch president Mrs. Carolyn Younganddaugh ter, Cassandra, spent the past weekend in the city with rela tives, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert San ders and Miss Eva Sanders. Mr. William D. Young of Lan caster, S. C. spent last Saturday in the city with his mother, Mrs. Minnie Young and other relatives. CHOIRS’ ANNIVERSARY Mount Moriah Baptist Church Choir celebrated its 25th Anni versary on Sunday night. Mrs. Lucinda McMorris pre sided over the program. The present choir leader, Hu bert Sanders cut the cake and shared it with the former lead er, Loveas Dillard. New Prospect, Antioch, New Grove and Springfield Choirs rendered music. Mr. and Mrs. William Shannon and family of Lancaster, S. C. were out-of-town witnesses to this program. ATTENDS FUNERAL Mrs. Virginia Gary and Mrs. Rubye Robinson has returned to the city after attending the fun eral services in Washington, D. C. of their Aunt Mrs. Eugene “Goode” Blakely. The late Mrs. Blakely is the sister of Mrs. Gussie Bell, Miss Sally Pitts and P. B. Pitts. The trip was made by plane from the Greenville - Spartanburg Airport. ATTENDS FRATERNITY The Founders Day observance of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was held on Sunday at Israel Methodist Church, Greenville, Rev. CasteU Jackson, Pendle ton was the speaker. The mes sage was very inspiring. Attending from this city were Dr. and Mrs. J. T. W. Mims. MOTHER PASSES Mrs. Alice Adams passed at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Paralee Hunter in Lau rens, on Friday. Funeral services were held on Monday at Bethel Baptist Church, Cross Hill with burial in the New Hope AME Church Ceme tery. Among the survivors is a son, Jesse Adams of Gary St, of this city. Sumpathy is extended to the family. County Students On Honor Roll Twelve Laurens County stu dents have been named to the ho nor roll for the fall quarter at Piedmont Technical Education Center in Greenwood.
