Share Christmas With State Hospital Patients The Laurens County Mental Health Association is asking re sidents to share Christmas with patients in the state mental hospi tals. Those wishing to donate gifts may do so by dropping the wrap ped gifts (marked with a tag to donote contents) in the specially marked boxes at the Chamber of Commerce, Ruby’s Beauty Salon, Dell’s Beauty Salon, Jinny’s Beauty Nook, Sadler’s Pharmacy and Pitts’ Mens Store. Gifts will be collected on Dec. 15 to be delivered to Columbia. Some suggestions made by the hospital staff are pipes, tobacco, shaving lotions, belts, gloves for men; makeig), creams, lotions, hair curlers, shampoo, socks, lipstick and accessories for lad ies; dolls, games, educational toys, crayons, athletic equip-* ment, sleepwear, rainwear, etc., for girls and boys. No package should contain glass, matches, mirrors, razors, blades, nail files, needles or lighter fluid, etc. Some of the other organiza tions assisting in this drive are the Clinton Business and Profes sional Women’s Club, Presby terian College Fraternities and Thornwell Senior Class. Alexander Wins Champions Award William Abit Alexander, 607 South Adair Street, Clinton, will receive the Circle of Champions Award of Waddell & Reed, Inc, for outstanding achievement as a Representative. The award is given annually to the top 100 of the Company’s more than 3,000 sales representatives in the field on the basis of their performance during the year. Each winner, and his wife, will be guests at a three-day meet ing in Boca Raton, Florida, in February. O, Dr. U. 1969— Fryga Exhibit Opens In Columbia Sunday The Studio Gallery at 7124 Mun- ticello Road in Columbia, will present works by local artist Betty Fryga December 14th through the 31st. Media on display are paintings, sculpture and pho tography. The Studio Gallery is one of three art galleries in Co lumbia showing work by con temporary artists on a profess ional level. Miss Fryga devotes full time to teaching and to her own work. She has had several one-man shows in Clinton, and garnered prizes in three categories this year at the State Fair Art Ex hibition. Another local show ir Clinton is planned later this win ter. This is her first one-man show out of the local area, mak ing this her professional debut for the State-wide area. A recent Channel 35 ETV pro gram conducted by Jon Formo showed the versatility and wide range of Miss Fryga’s work. Formo noted, “It’s nothing short of amazing, her profeciency and high quality of excellence in what ever form she touches: painting, graphics, sculpture, ceramics, photography." Others on the pro gram were in complete agree ment. Miss Fryga also plans two ex hibitions this spring here inClin- ton. Meantime, at her studio- apartment on S. Gerald Smitk loins Greenwood Data Processing Gerald K. Smith has been named a Systems Manager in the Electronic Data Processing de partment of Greenwood Mills. George Brockenbrough, Direc tor of Electronic Data Process ing for the company, made the announcement. Smith is a graduate of Orange burg High School and he attended the University of South Carolina. He was Data Processing Man ager for Joanna ’Ccttbn Mills from 1962 until the plants were acquired by Greenwood MiUs. In 1965, he moved to Greenwood as a Systems Analyst. Smith is married to the former C’W Treadway of Eccles, West Virginia. They have two child ren, Gerri Sue, 13, and Jeff, 12. The family attends South Main Street Baptist Church. Pruitts Sing At Friendship Little Betty Pruitt and the Pruitt Trio will be guest singers Sunday night, Dec. 14, at the Friendship Baptist Church. The service will start at 7 p.m. The church is located on North Broad St. Ext. and Rev. Jesse D. Stephens is pastor of the church. Taylor Promoted To Lance Cpl. Marine Lance Corporal Paul I. Taylor, son of Mrs. Mary A. Taylor of Route 2, Clinton was promoted to his present rank while serving with the Third Bat talion, First Regiment, First Ma rine Division in Vietnam. His promotion was based on time in service and rank, mili tary appearance, and his know ledge of selected military sub jects.
