The Debutante season is in full swing and the many parties which the young ladies are enjoying will be remembered for a long time. Saturday morning Misses Sara Lynn Wysor and Melissa Turner were honored at a cola party given by Mrs. W. P. Jacobs and Mrs. E. N. Sullivan. Guests included the 1969 debu tantes and their mothers. Mrs. C. E. Galloway and Mrs. Robert E. Wysor, grandmothers of the honorees, were special guests. The Jacobs home on Chestnut Street looked lovely with roses and a variety of bright summer flowers. Especially pretty was the dining room table which was covered with a cutwork cloth and centered with an elegant arrange ment of pink roses in a silver bowl. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. JamesE.Simmons, Route 1, Clinton and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Bishop of 402 Pickens Street, Joanna. The bride was given in mar riage by her father. The white bride’s Bible she carried was topped with a bouquet of four white carnations. The maid of honor, Miss Bren da Gaye Simmons wore an aqua taffeta overlaid with white lace. She carried a nosegay of sum mer flowers. Flower girl Miss Lori Angela Simmons was at tired in aqua taffeta trimmed with white lace. She carried a basket of summer flowers. Mr. Bishop was his son’s best man. Ushers were Billy Gene Bishop and Johnny Jacks of Jo anna. Ringbearer was Tim Sim mons. Nuptial music was provided by Miss Rena Ramage, organist and Mrs. Charles Buice, soloist. For the wedding trip to the mountams, the bride wore an A- line dress of burgandy linen with white accessories. The couple will make their home at Myrtle Beach after Aug ust 29. Both are Clinton High School graduates. The groom is now serving in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Myrtle Beach. GBeflc CHILDREN'S WORLD SECOND FLOOR Dinner Party Honors Couple Miss Nannette Young and Mr. Samuel Foster, whose wedding is planned for September 26, was honored with a dinner party on August 16 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Van Jones at 1064 Ellis Ave., Orangeburg. Hosts with the Jones were Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Matthews. Seventeen friends and relatives enjoyed the seated dinner. Places at the table were marked with cards which the hostesses had made from the scraps of material from the bridesmaid dresses. Flowers w6re used to designate the ladies and bow ties for the man. Spring flowers in shades ofpink were used through out the home and pink tapers added to festive air. The bride-elect was presented a corsage to commemorate the occasion and the couple was given a wedding book and a barbeque grill by the hosts. Mrs. Land Returns From Music Seminar Mrs. Land has recently re turned from Chicago where she attended the 32 Annual Key board Seminar of the Sherwood Music School, Aug. 5 through 14. The Seminar is essentially a “refresher" course by means of which teachers of the school are kept in touch with the latest de velopments in music education. It includes private lessons from distinguished artist teachers, ad vanced theory studies, and lec tures on methods and materials. Special events of this year’s Seminar included daily lunch eons, a luncheon at the famous Kungsholm Restaurant, and a miniture opera performance. Mrs. Land announces that her studio will begin the activities of the new teaching season on Monday, September 1. Sandra Kate McWhorter Bride of Mason Johnson Great Minds: Same Channel Which came first, the frankfurter or wiener? Wurstmakers in Frankfurt am Main in Germany created the frankfurter about the same time sausage makers in Vienna created the wiener. Apparently they were Wed while crossing the ocean or at Coney Island. Some say they became known as the hot dog, when the bun was added. Others say the name was inspired by a newspaper cartoon printed following a sports event. Miss Sandra Kate McWhorter became Mrs. Mason Carodine Johnson at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17, in the Chapel of the Washing ton Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, S. C. The Rev. E. Wannamaker Hardin of ficiated. The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Cullen Mc Whorter, Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and the groom’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Ansel Ray Johnson of Jo anna. The organist was Mr. Hubert W. Tucker and the poetry reader was the brother of the bride, Benjamin Cullen McWhorter, HI. The ceremony included three se lections of poetry, “How Do I Love Thee?” by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, “Love” by Roy Croft, and “Arise, My Love” from The Song of Solomon in the Bible. Given in marriage by her fa ther, the bride wore an heirloom gown of imported French lace, handclipped rose pointe, and im ported tulle. Embellished with the hand-clipped roses and accented by pearls, the portrait neckline curved to meet the off-shoulder puffed sleeves and mabifiing gauntlets. The bodice of heavy satin was covered with lace which gracefully swept to a floor-length gathered skirt. It was dis tinguished by the rose pointe flower motif woven into the lace from the waistline to the chapel length train. The veil was a shoulder fall of ivory illusion attached to the headpiece of beaded crownpoints. The bridal bouquet was a cas cade of orchids and carnations. The matron of honor was the sister of the bride, Mrs. Archie Richard Graham of Wichita, Kan. Other attendants were Mrs. David McFarland of Ann Arbor, Michi gan, andsister of the groom, Miss Barbara Johnson of Joanna. The flower girl was the niece of the bride, Miss Caralou Graham of Wichita, Kan. All attendants wore blue Georgette gowns which echoed the bride’s design with a portrait neckline, a full floor length skirt, and long puffed sleeves ending in a ruffle. Their ensemble was completed by the fillegree gold chain and graduated pearl necklaces given by the bride to each of the attendants. The bridesmaids carried nose gays of shaded blue and purple astors with blue velvet ribbon. The flower girl carried a white basket of carnation petals. The groom’s best man was his father. The bride chose a three-piece travel suit of Trevira knit in red, white, and navy. After a trip to the North Carolina mountains, the couple will reside of Cassina Road in Columbia, S. C. Myra Sue Bradford, Larry Barker Wed I Friendship Baptist Church was the scene of the wedding of Miss Myra Sue Bradford and Larry Joe Barker on Sunday, August 10 following the morning worship service. Rev. Jessie D. Stephens, pastor, performed the ceremony. Miss Helen Snipes provided the music. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bradford of 102 Caldwell St. and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Bar ker of Bailey Circle. Given in marriage by her fa ther, Miss Bradford wore a love ly wedding dress fashioned by her mother of white self-lined lace. It was daytime length and de signed with a tiny stand up collar and long full gather sleeves. Dainty lace edged the collar and the sleeves cuff. Her bouffant of illusion was attached to a pill box type headpiece of matching material. She carried a nosegay bouquet. Miss Penny Campbell, maid of honor, wore a street-length dress of blue taffeta and carried along stem pink carnation.
